Adding a Chamfer to Only a Few Selected Edges Along a Contour

I have simple problem with selecting edges for a chamfer, but can't find a solution online, I might just be dense about this. I only want to select a single edge and its filleted edges, but not the rest of the contour. I manually selected the edges in free selection in the first image to demonstrate what I want to chamfer.

When I try to select the edges with the chamfer operation it only lets me select the full contour.

I was already able to accomplish the same effect in this next image (in the middle of the model) because the Z axis of extruded parts are different, so it lets me select them differently.

You can select individual edges if you remove the Tangent Chain checked box.  This box is only effective if the edges are connected by a rounded edge, which is your case.
