6 Gigabyte webdeploy folder?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm running Fusion 360 Ultimate, version 2.0.4099, on Mac OS 10.11.6.

I noticed that the folder Library/Application Support/Autodesk/webdeploy was over 5GB in size, and literally just now, when I opened Fusion to check the version, the size grew by more than an additional Gigabyte.  While the "shared" folder within "webdeploy" is 1.42GB, the "production" folder is now 5.14GB (and it appears to be the one that grew in size when I opened Fusion).  In "production" are folders with long gibberish names, two of which have sizes measured in KB, and the rest of which are around 1.3GB each, this size being due roughly half and half to the "Helpers" and "Libraries" folders within.

Is this some sort of accidental duplication?  Can I safely delete some or all of these folders, and is there a way to prevent this from happening again?

Thank you very much for your assistance.  Please let me know if there's any more information I can provide to be helpful.  Smiley Happy

The marked solution doesn't work for me. Here is my solution:
1, start your Fusion 360, make sure it is updated to the newest, and all your file saved and synced
2, run Task Manager, look for Fusion 360, expand and right click to open file location, now you know exactly where the really running Fusion 360.exe is located, remember it.
3, go to the webdeploy/production folder, keep the folder from step2 (it may not be the newest folder), and delete all others.

Does my script help or are you not on a mac?

Another option is to delete all the log files (ie all those ending <dot>LOG)  Normally I would just remove older lines.

I will try and find time to improve the script - no promises

Im not on a mac and I am not good at programming and doing scripts.

I deleted it all and no the program won't start... šŸ˜‰ so I have to reinstall everything. But the biggest problem was that Fusion filled up my hard drive so that noting else worked.

So right now I can work on the other thing so that's good.

Very sorry about that - I have numerous scripts that run overnight to tidy-up everything and save the re-install and hopefully keep the machines running as fast as possible.
Hope the delete and re-install works

Feels like it's in Autodesk's interest to make it work for their users... Without them having to make cleaning robots...

Autodesk, what are you doing to solve this?

We are talking about C:\Program Files\Autodesk\webdeploy\production

your suggested exe is located here: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production

So the decrypted name of the folder is not in program files.

Hello,

As of October 25, 2023 I would like to inform you that this problem is still present.

In fact, on some of our workstations at the university, the autodesk/webdeploy/production folder contains more than 50 gigabytes.

I would like to point out that a "Clear cache Data" as indicated on the screenshot does not solve the problem.

I use the chocolatey utility to update all my Fusion360 workstations.

At this time, what do you recommend Autodesk to overcome this problem? A script to offer us?

THANKS

From the sound of things, these are old builds that are not getting removed during the update process. I would recommend uninstalling and manually cleaning up this folder, then reinstalling Fusion and seeing if the installations continue to accumulate.

Under normal update circumstances, Fusion downloads the new build alongside the old one. When restarting, successful launch of the new update triggers deletion of the old build. But if something is locking those files (such as folder permissions or multiple active Fusion processes), the cleanup process can fail.

It's also possible that something is wrong with the update process in detecting all files from the old installation - I can only speculate at this time.

Knowing if the builds continue stacking up after a clean reinstall of the latest release as of May 17th will help us to narrow down where the issue might be.

this worked for me too, cleaned up 8GB sitting there from old updates. I'm disappointed by autodesk support response telling people we just shouldn't touch any of these files while they have flaws in their update mechanism leaving GB's of stale files behind, using up disk space on their customers storage, due diligence please autodesk.

After clearing up the stale folders keeping only the "current" one, I had to delete/recreate Windows OS shortcuts to Fusion360.exe to the remaining folder for me was :

C\Users\<myUserName>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\c8ccd68f9db18c054d1ebc9c01376922733ac46e\Fusion360.exe

cheers

Hello all, I'm Scott, and I too suffer from SHDS... Small Hard Drive Syndrome...

Pulling the string on this issue, like the rest of you, I have gone about this in multiple directions. The "Clear Cache Data" solution freed up about 500MB. Deciding that the worst case scenario here was a reinstall, I deleted all folders in the Webdeploy/production folder with exception of those dated this month (Oct 2024), leaving three folders in 'production'; the latest folder before this was dated July 2024.  This freed 4.5gb, and Fusion still boots and runs as it should.

Hope this helps.
