3rd angle projection in ISO drawings

Hi All,

I'm having serious trouble getting an ISO drawing to generate views in 3rd angle projection.

-I have tried creating templates with my preferences set to override ISO format defaults to 3rd angle.

-I have tried using a blank ISO template with my preferences set to override defaults to 3rd angle.

The only possible way I can get it to generate 3rd angle projections  is to use ASME but then I can't use A3 paper size which cannot work here in Australia.

This must be a bug. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Moshiur,

Yes, I read through that thread and still came up with the same problem there's no way for me to set up 3rd angle in ISO. It always reverts to 1st.

The workaround I found in the end was; Set my  base view as normal, project 1st angle views on their relative side, Then move them  to the opposite side of the base view. Thus making it 3rd angle.

Switching between 1st and 3rd angle should not really be such a difficult task and from reading these forums it looks as though a lot of people have trouble with it.

Regards, Luke

I get the same problem with you ,today.

I have use template which it's used to be 3th angle, but now I can't create 3th angle in this template .

I try to:

-Go to Prefereance and Change the projection angle to 3th angle.

-Restart computure and check tempplate preferance-> 3th angle (Perfrence in template.jpg)

-create new drawing use template and check drawing preferance -> 3th angle (Use template.jpg)

-then, create projection view -> 1th angle!!? why??

That what I found.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've been having the same problem. I had setup my drawings templates to all use 3rd angle projection. Now they have reverted back to 1st, even when the preferences still show it should be creating 3rd.

I have tried all combinations of preferences and it will only produce drawings in 1st angle projection now. I first noticed this at the start of the year. I'd be very interested in finding a resolution for this problem.

I knocked together a very quick video... hopefully, this will help you.

Just remember that the projection is set in the drawing template, it cannot be changed once it is set. To set it initially you need to override your preferences to 3rd angle, then create a drawing template "from scratch". Once created, save this template with a logical name and use it as needed.

Hi Clint,  I have just installed this Fusion360 (fresh install on a Mac) and there is NO OPTION to change the projection standard - none - my screen looks similar to yours, except NO OPTION to change the override and change the projection standard.  Is the issue related to being an education license?

I am with the original poster - this has to be a bug, and it must be fixed if you wish to retain customers.  Does Autodesk know that other than US and Canada and some latin American countries, you cannot get the paper sizes established for the ASME standard??? For reference - check the world map for paper sizes.  Billions of people!! And there is no way to set up even a custom paper size, or any ISO paper sizes??  And then even if you could - you still can't cross over title block from the ISO to ASME??? It's only a bunch of lines with text - so why not! The page borders can't be copied/pasted or reloaded from ISO to ASME?? Wow - its 2022! Solidworks could do this from day dot! In Inventor it can be redefined.  Please help or comment.

Hi @ben.berkmortel

Have you tried changing the settings as shown below?

Hi Clint,

Thanks for responding - I have tried that and it did work - excellent!

However I did have to create the template from scratch - that was my experience. This is an area for improvement for Fusion360, to streamline the drawing tools and functionality.  For new users to the software - it's not obvious, nor intuitive, that you would need to change the IN YOUR PROFILE, the settings for TEMPLATE on how to change the drawing projection standard, when really all I wanted to do was change the projection method in a newly created drawing.  Different software, different workflow.

My next challenge is that I wanted to create a quick drawing that references two different views of a part at the same time - is that possible?  In SW language, to show two different configurations of the part in the same drawing in side by side views.  I was hoping I could reference in the same drawing, two views side by side of and object with and without holes.  Unfortunately it has been anything but quick.

At first I tried two different model files using Save, then Save As to create the 2nd part. I wasn't able to see how to make this work in the drawing by looking at something equivalent to drawing view properties.

Then I tried creating for the ONE part file two different versions, and I couldn't get that to work either. Version seemed affect both drawing views, I wasn't able to seperate their display behaviour, even though they are both Base Views.

I am willing to use two different models if needed, but feel there must be an easier way.

is this possible - what is the feature that might permit this? Apparently DERIVE might be the answer, but again, my goal is to show two views side by side in the same drawing - will Derive be able to do this?

Thanks for the help

one way is to put the 2 parts in one assembly and then add 2 base views. the just supress part 1 from the first view and part 2 form the second view.
