2 scroll wheel mouse, any way to rotate model clockwise or counterclockwise?

I have a Logitech MX Master 3 mouse featuring a second scroll wheel. Is there any way to map the second scroll wheel to a clockwise or counterclockwise rotation? I could always map it to a keyboard hotkey or something like that but I have never found any way to get that 3rd degree of rotation besides moving the pointer in a clockwise or counterclockwise swirl pattern when holding shift.

Holding shift I can of course pan and tilt the model just fine, but I was really really hoping to make that 3rd dimension of movement a reality. I can map the mouse any which way but I can't find a function allowing an input of that 3rd degree of rotation. Do any input devices support that clockwise or counterclockwise movement?

Hi,

Good question and an understandable one. Unfortunately Fusion does not have a turntable scroll mode. Applications have to use the signals that input devices send them, and in this case there is no concept like "rotate" as an analog to "zoom", that can be done with a mouse wheel.

I think you'd benefit from trying Tinkercad navigation mode. In Help > Quick Setup, set Navigate & View to "Tinkercad". The graphic will change to show you what buttons do what. The key difference is no modifier keys are needed to orbit.

I am already aware how to navigate in fusion. Does tinkercad mode actually do something? I turned it on, restarted fusion, opened a model and nothing changed. Is there even a way to rotate clockwise or counter clockwise?

I guess I should move this to the feature request forum? Even without a second mouse scroll wheel, a keyboard shortcut like being able to tap z or x when holding shift to move clockwise or counter clockwise x degrees of rotation would make model movement drastically easier as getting that third degree of freedom usually involves messing with the navigation cube in the upper right hand corner and it's a pain in the butt.

In searching the forums on how to do this previously, there seem to be a lot of people asking about it.

Tinkercad allows orbit with only the right mouse button. No view cube, no shift key. It sounded like an option you might enjoy.

I think you misunderstand what I am going for. I like the shift key navigation as it is. I am just looking for a 3rd degree of rotation as right now there is no method of clockwise or counterclockwise rotation.

I hope I'm understanding you. You really want to rotate the model view literally like a clock face. The view cube is the only way to do that now, or use the orbit command (from the nav bar) and use one of the isolated axis rotation points, such as the circular edge of the reticle that appears.

Many people get a 3Dconnexion mouse.  The enterprise model has programmable buttons, I'm pretty sure it can do view cube like rotations to "right" "left" etc. and orbit by a dominant axis.

Good luck with your idea post!

If there is an input method for that rotation and is it hardware specific to the 3Dconnexion mouse? I can map the second scroll wheel to almost anything using the logitech software and if fusion can process that 3rd degree of freedom then maybe there is a path to input that movement?. What I can't figure out is how the software takes that as an input. Not that I have tried the space mouse yet (and I happen to like the MX master 3 quite a bit).  Is there a way that fusion 360 maps the clockwise/counterclockwise movements?

I may have spoken too soon about spacemouse. I don't have my enterprise here in my home office to confirm it. (I just use notebook navigator).

I think what makes it work for 3Dconnexion is the device sends "orbit" commands to Fusion, the same orbit commands you send by trackpad, or mouse. So the space-mice are somewhat flexible as you'd imagine with such a powerful device as an enterprise model. The reason this works is not Fusion 360 development, it is 3Dconnexion working to support Fusion and send normal Fusion orbit events using their own macros/buttons.

If logitech supported specific apps they could do the same. I don't think that's how they configure their drivers.
