100% CPU usage and instability (ver.2.0.7438)

Hi everybody,

I´m not sure if this problem i´m having has something to do with the latest update of Fusion360, but since then its almost a constant struggle to work with. My newest design is a stamp. As I exdruded the letters I encountered this problem for the first time. My CPU usage shot up to 100% (something it never did before in any application)

I´m running an i7 7700K with 16GB of 3200 14cl G.Skill RAM and liquid cooling. It has been a rocksolid configuration since 2 years and still has no problems with whatever i´m doing, but Fusion kills it. Even bluescreens occurred.

I just tried to do the stick of the stamp. Making a 360º extrusion of the shape i created - the result was a 15min 100% CPU overload. About 2 weeks ago everything worked totally fine.

Please help…

The 2.0.7438 version is 100% unusable for me as well. Crashes when I try and change tabs. 

Text has always been a problem with fusion though, I can't explain why. Small trick someone showed me the other day though. Once you've created the text in your sketch and you're happy with it, right click and select explode text. It will convert it to lines and arcs and points and that seems to make it run a lot happier again. Don't think you can go back and edit the text after, but it will at least make the software run normal.

Phil, while my issue may not be related, my comments on text are. Fusion has always struggled for some reason when text is added to a sketch. I've noticed the same behavior described in the initial post for a couple years, where cpu usage jumps to 100% and the software gets very slow as you add text to designs. The tip I shared is one I've been using to work around the issue.

I´ve tried to explode the text in the design i´m running. It´s not as bad as before, but still... its a pain ITA!

All in all, the CPU behaviour is still going nuts. Maybe its because the design is already rendered.. dunno...

Next time I have a similar design i will try this technique from the beginning on, in hope not having the same issues.

I was so happy with this program, but this is really killing my patience. 

I´m disapointed that a so good known company like this apparently does not care, regarding all the people experiencing the same problems for years, making updates and visual changes without focusing on something that would really make a difference and improve workflow. anyways…

Perhaps I should explain what my signature means. I'm a quality engineer and when people come to the forum complaining of bugs I investigate them. Other engineers do too. It's a little unfair to say we don't care. If you send me the design I can do two things: offer a workaround and log a bug report and urge someone to fix it. Without that interaction from you I must spend my time working on other ways to improve Fusion. If you look on these forum pages you'll see that me and my colleagues are always happy to help and take direct feedback from customers to fix the issues you care about. I'm still happy to do so right now.

I also encountered another problem I´ve stumbled over several times. 

A random duplications of layers. Not sure if anyone has encountered something similiar.

I figured out, that i have a huge amount of layers on every line. Like as I would have copied and pasted them onto each other. This may be one of the reasons why my system is having such problems. Still I have no idea how this could have happened.

I´m going to redesign the stamp and see if the problem persist. If so, i will let you know and get in touch again. 

I don´t want people to invest their time in a problem that´s maybe caused by my own stupidity..

I would still be interested in seeing the design. If you got into this state accidentally, then it would be good to know why or how that happened.

I just shared the design to let you have a look at it.

I did not use any other program to create parts of the designs.

The only thing I did, was using an image to recreate the design as this stamp is for a girlfriend of mine who wants to make cookies for a social biker event they are planning.

The problems are related to the font. It has rough jagged edges and hundreds of tiny pockets. These are creating vast amounts of geometry data. This is what is making the CPU active. 

In just the "stamp" portion, where the art and fonts are used, a quick count shows:

Faces counted 5384

Edges counted 10680

Most fonts do not create so much extra geometry. Fusion keeps close track of all of that for things like CAM or SIM. It also affects graphics display, and selection logic when the mouse is on those (highly populated) surfaces.

Can you tell me what font you used? And what OS you are using too please. Perhaps there is a better way to handle fonts like this and provide a better experience for you.
