Workspace all black in Full Screen Mode

Was using Insider build and had this issue, worked fine on an outdated non-insider build, after updating to latest non-insider, the issue came back for the stable. So yes, I am using an insider build, but no, this problem also exists on stable Fusion, at least the latest version. This issue has persisted on Insider for at least a few months btw.

OS: Windows

GPU: NVIDIA RTX3070

Black workspace when in fullscreen, can briefly go back to normal if you click something or Alt+Tab, but will go black again if you click the workspace.

And I realized that this doesn't show up in Snipping Tool's screen recording...

Here is a screen capture using a capture card, to show what I actually see on my screen. Curiously, this seems to only happen on the main display in multi-monitor setup, but I am not that sure, as sometimes it just suddenly work, but after fullscreen-ing on the other monitor and then back, it goes black again.

@b11705060 Couple of things to check:

1. Are you using multiple monitors? If you are if you go back to only one main monitor does this still happen?

2. Can you check for new graphics driver updates or even re-install your graphics driver?

3. In the second video what is that dialog you got for which I think you hit OK?

Thank you for the prompt response.

1. Yes. However, I unplugged the second monitor and the problem persists. Curiously, the black still does not show up in screenshots (even Print Screen, which does not switch to another application)

2. Graphics driver is up to date Game Ready driver (NVIDIA 560.94)

3. Revolve?

Also, I don't think I have encountered this issue on an Intel Arc A750 GPU, only after switching to the NVIDIA RTX3070. Graphics driver in Preferences set to Auto select or OpenGL Core Profile both has this issue.

What I did in the video:

  • Launch Fusion and close the recovery document dialog
  • Ctrl Shift F (black)
  • Ctrl Shift F (normal again)
  • Box operation
  • Ctrl Shift F (black)
  • Randomly clicked the Loft to show it goes normal again until I click anything in the viewport.
  • Randomly clicked the Hole to show it goes normal again. Selecting a point to add a hole did not make it go black.
  • Pressed cancel and goes black again.
  • Selected the Surface tab and then back to the Solid tab, but the UI did not respond.
  • Alt+Tabbed, and now the Surface tab is selected (the first thing clicked after black screen).
  • Selected something in the viewport and went black again.
  • Alt+Tab to fix it temporarily.
  • Clicked anywhere in the viewport and went black again.
  • Alt+Tab to fix it temporarily.
  • Clicked anywhere in the viewport and went black again.
  • Selected the Solid tab, and then the Mesh tab, and then the Solid tab.
  • Selected the third item in the toolbar while UI is still showing the Surface tab, it goes back normal, but it selected the third item of the Solid tab (also the first thing clicked after black screen), which is Revolve.
  • Selected a face and an axis and pressed OK to revolve. The result is shown, until I click the viewport.
  • Ctrl S to bring up the Save dialog, the viewport is back to normal.
  • Pressed cancel, black again.
  • Ctrl S again, normal again.
  • Cancel, this time it didn't go black until I click anything.
  • Alt+Tab to fix it.
  • Clicked anything to make it go black again.

@b11705060 This is certainly graphics as you can see.

1. in Preferences set to Auto select or OpenGL Core Profile both has this issue. - Do you see a Direct X option?

2. In terms of drivers can you please re-install them and then restart machine and Fusion?

1. Yes, and setting it to DirectX 11 does not fix the issue.

2. I've DDUed and reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers multiple times (because there was a display sleep issue and I'm just testing things out) to no avail.

The fact that the black can't be screen captured by Windows snipping tool, Print Screen, and OBS Display Capture makes it very bizarre. The capture card video in my first reply comment does fully show what I see on the monitor. Also, after some recalling, I'm pretty sure this only happened after switching to a NVIDIA graphics card, and it did not happen on the Intel Arc. I've turned off AdaptiveSync on my monitor and have restored all 3D settings in NVIDIA Control Panel to defaults.

It works totally fine in Windowed mode, I just want to enter fullscreen mode because the bottom timeline is close to the Windows taskbar and sometimes I accidentally hover on an icon and bring up the window thumbnail, which is very annoying.

Just another tiny clue to throw out there.

full screen mode shortcut causes screen to go black - Autodesk Community - Fusion

Here is a similar issue I found in the forums, however, entering fullscreen via both the shortcut and the bottom floating toolbar's Display Setting button causes this issue. So, it is not quite the same issue.

Here's a clue I found out, although I'm pretty sure neither (window maximised or not) worked before, but now only fullscreening when the window is maximised causes this issue.

The black does not show up on screen recordings interestingly, so I had to record it like this.

@b11705060 What graphics card is on this machine? Can we start with updating or re-installing of the graphics drivers?

It is a GTX 3070. I've already reinstalled the drivers, they're completely fresh.

The fullscreen mode totally works when I fullscreen from a not-maximised-in-Windows window.

I've also just found out something very interesting. I tried it on my second monitor with rotation, and realized that the display reorientation set in Windows is lost when fullscreened on a maximised window! And I also get a black screen for the main viewport, of course. I guess that means that it is something to do with some low level graphics stuff (remember also that I cannot screen record the black. It only appears on the monitor (but any monitor on any display output)).

It also was totally fine in the past, and then it happened on the Insider version, and then both. So I guess there was a change somewhere that is now in mainline that caused this.

This is probably not relevant anymore, but I'll just leave it here. I had a similar problem and this helped me: Preferences>Compatibility&Troubleshooting>>>>High-DPI Application Scaling(No), Qt Renderings Hardware interface API (D3D11), Override Chromium GPU Workarounds(Yes)
