why am I getting the error there are no visible surfaces to trim?

This is my second time making this model and it worked before and now it won't. Can't quite figure out what's wrong.

Because there are no visible surfaces to trim.

When exiting the form environment the sculpted body is supposed to convert to a surface, (orange body icon) and they have not done so, (still purple).

There is no timeline, I suspect that is the reason, but not sure.
