View Cube freezes

Fusion 360, new UI, Apple MacBook Pro, Mojave OS.

I have been experiencing the View Cube locking up for months and have not found a fix correcting the problem. I also have not found any particular operation that causes it to lock up. It just locks up when it wants to - like playing a slot machine, it's a gamble as to when - only the Cube Knows! The complexity of the design has no effect either, a simple cube and it may lock up.

Folks have responded with various ideas to try and NONE have worked. Just today I have had 3 lock ups and had to close Fusion and signed back in to get the cube to work again. One suggestion was to  use the Orbit feature: I feel that if I want a side, front, top, etc, view the cube will provide a "flat" face, whereas the Orbit may not be as accurate, or at least as easy for me to use.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same annoying problem!!

Cleared cache.

The problem now occurred for the last 6 months with several version.

If i had to guess, i would say nobody completely nobody is testing on the Autodesk side their software with a macbook only using a the build in trackpad and not a mouse.

This is just annoying. Start testing on Macbook Pros with trackpads.

Otherwise this will be still an issue in 10 years.

The bug occurs completly random. Sometims after 5 minutes of modeling. Some times after 30 minutes.

The Fusion 360 development team added a preview feature that solves this issue. Can you try the solution and let me know what you think?

Hello, i have gone ahead and tried what you suggested. On my Macbook Pro 16 inch 2019 with the i7 Six Core... . The issue is still there just as before.

It did not resolve anything.

Did you check preferences after restarting Fusion to ensure Native Trackpad is in fact "on" after restarting Fusion?

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the effect on the view cube with or without native trackpad. And since complaints about it have ceased with the introduction of native trackpad, it's hard to say what might be happening for you. Can you make a video showing how to achieve the view cube affect? I'm glad to try to replicate what you are doing.

This problem is so annoying... can not stress this enough. Having to restart Fusion360 every 10 minutes because this occurs...

I can not concentrate on modelling, but always have to deal with this error.

A video would really help me see what you are doing when the view cube stops working.

Nothing special. I am just modelling in Fusion360 a smaller part which then gets printed in my 3D printer.

Thanks for taking the time to post a video on youtube.

Unfortunately the video does a great job of describing the issue, but does not help with the ability for me or another tester to replicate the issue for debugging.

What I need to know is what you are doing or how the bug is triggered. Only with that information can I hope to replicate the problem, then explain it for a developer who can then replicate the problem while running a debugging program. Can you pin point a particular action that causes the bug to appear? It seems like it's common for you, so hopefully you can notice when it starts and what happened immediately prior to that.

The issue occurs always when I use my trackpad on the MacBook an drag and hold the view cube for longer time and by that rotate the object you are designing. Always when this happens and you press and hold out of the display so the mouse goes into the offset/ not visible part of the display the viewing cube gets stuck.

If this does not explain the issue then I can not do better.

Unfortunately, no matter how long I orbit using the view cube and track pad, I cannot repeat the problem.

Have you tried orbiting using the orbit command (in the navigation bar at the bottom) or using the trackpad to orbit?

Hi,

Can we have a “force a dump” option so that when we get this problem, we can send a problem report with recent history? This may also help in solving other ghost phenomena.

It has not happened so much any more. I got another request to “dump” the work I was on and send it to them.

I don’t mind doing this but I have never done anything like a “dump”. If someone can send me specific instructions I will do it. (Note: having some vision problems so It may be a few days after I get instructions.)

BELOW IS THE REQUEST MADE TO ME:

I don’t mind helping, but I am confused about what to do. Force Dump is new to me?

This was directed at the developers as something to add in to improve troubleshooting. it is not a feature.
