Unacceptably Slow Load and Save Times

Fusion 360 is the absolute worst when it comes to opening and saving files. Fusion likes to grey out with a black bar over the browser even when doing the most basic operations. There have been load times of upwards of half an hour, if not more in some cases. I have better luck killing Fusion in the task manager and reopening the file I want than to wait. The other engineers at my company have also been experiencing the same issues, all on different PCs.

Clearing the cache does nothing to help. I even tried clearing my cache, saving files offline, and unplugging the internet one time thinking it was the internet connection. No different. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same load issues occurring on the first file I opened!

Something is very, very wrong with Fusion 360.

ugh Its so slow.
It has been good for some time opening documents before the recent speed increase patch rolled out. Since that patch it ends up being faster closing fusion and reopening it to open a new document. It struggles with getting latest when trying to update CAD and then update drawings quickly. It makes the process extremely painful.
Hot garbage ends up being faster. Please help.
Thanks 😄

feeling quite frustrated that my files stored in the clud will cause fusion to crash when trying to load them. its beyond frustrating that i cant simply open them at all and at this point i have great doubt that this can be a memory issue.

Thanks for reporting open/save file slow. I am sorry for hearing that. My team is currently looking at performance issues in these areas. We have fixed a couple of issues recently, but certainly would like to know more issues. If you can share more information, it would be helpful. Probably my team can look into these issues.

I am interested in,

  • Does your f3d only have Fusion design asset? Or you have more workspaces used and saved such as CAM, SIM?
  • Is it slow for the first time download from cloud or second and later are also slow?

If it is possible, can you share me with your f3d file? If you do not want to share it here, you can also send to me through my email: raymond.xu@autodesk.com

Hi @raymondxu, to answer your questions,

  1. I mainly use the Design workspace. My company does have a separate shared account that includes SIM that we use from time to time. So some of the files I open have simulations saved that I access on my personal account, but not all.
  2. It is slow almost every time. As I mentioned originally, I've even experienced the issue with files saved offline with the internet turned off and unplugged.
  3. I can't send just one f3d file, because I've had this issue with almost every file at one point or another. Some days are better than others though.

I've had this issue with using milestones and opening/updating drawings.

Basically, if i try and open a drawing, if fusion is "not responding" for more than 30 secs, i know it's frozen out and it may take from 5 to 30 minutes to open/update a drawing. A supplier of mine that is also using fusion is experiencing the same exact issue.

My workflow these days involves a lot of task manager. I have to kill fusion, restart in order to use the drawings or milestones.

I've opened a ticket with support. I use fusion for work as my main source of income.... This has become so unbearable that i'm strongly considering moving to Inventor or Solidworks. The cloud side of thing is really screwing me up.

Same thing here. Fusion 360 never was this bad so it's obviously an issue they created within the past year. We have had IT look at it and they were not able to find the issue. It is not hardware or internet provider related. Appears to be Fusion 360 itself or the Fusion 360 servers.

Yes, the number of times that I have to use Task Manager to kill Fusion and then wait for it to restart is getting to be a big waste of my workday. It can be very frustrating to know there are potentially hours of inefficient time that could be used to finish projects if this wasn't an issue. I've made the mistake more than once of trying to open another drawing before I've saved the one I'm currently on, and I lose significant progress which just compounds my irritation.

I also have the issue when opening fusion on my computer with the docking station plugged in it has a much higher chance of crashing.  If I unplug the docking station fusion will most likely open fine.  I can open models with the docking station plugged in, granted it can be very slow, but if I try to open a drawing it will lock up for a long time and most likely crash.  It would be nice to not have to unplug my docking station just to open a drawing it becomes a big hassle and a large waste of time. Also editing the properties of a model with the docking station plugged in can crash fusion.

Thanks for reporting!

There seems to be different issues, would you please share your videos with us where you can reproduce the slowness? Meanwhile, it would be helpful for us if you can share the Log files from your machine.

Thanks all for the support!

-Lisa

Lisa, see the attached log file. Interesting note, even attempting to export this file caused Fusion to lock up for a couple of minutes.

This is intolerable almost a full minute 20 to open the program.

If the dev team needs to have a direct look at this issue, i can recreate it at will.

One thing i noticed is that, i'll fire up a fresh instance of fusion, open a drawing with no problem.

If I save the drawing, close it and try to reopen, it will for sure freeze. Which makes me believe its really a problem on AD end

Thank you all for the log files!

Regarding on the drawing opening issue, what we have reproduced internally is that, if upload a drawing in Fusion, then just opening it, it can be done quickly, but if resave it or close Fusion and reopen it, it will take more time. We have tracked a bug and will investigate what is causing the slowness.

Please let us know if you have other performance issues.

Thanks all for the support!

Hello Lisa,

Could you provide us with an ID number for the bug so that we can get updates on progress?

I would not be surprised if this issue is affecting all Fusion 360 users with very few of them voicing their complaints and just dealing with it... 😓

Would like this fixed as soon as possible because it is significantly slowing down our engineering team's progress!

@ezrascott, the defect being tracked internally is FDWG-15953. While we are still trying to understand if it's a general issue. It would be also helpful to us to see if what we have recreated is the same issue as what you found. And sharing some dataset with us for investigation woud be also a great help.

And do you recall when the performance issue starts in your side?

Thanks for your support and reply!

Regards,

-Lisa
