Unable To Rename Folders Or Files…

I’m currently running:

Fusion 2.0.19426 arm64 [Native]

Active Plan: Subscription

macOS 14.5 (23F79) on Mac14,3

For the last few weeks, I have been unable to rename folders or files in the Data Panel.

I have used this feature for several years but now when I ctrl-click on the folder name, it highlights the folder name (see attached) but doesn’t allow me to type in new characters.  The keyboard entry seems to attempt function shortcuts within Fusion.

I have tried renaming folders or files in the web hub but that doesn’t work either.

I have tried logging out of Fusion and re-booting my computer but the problem remains unchanged.

Could someone suggest some things to try to rename folders or files?

You Data Panel seem odd, it is missing the Edit on Web icon (red arrow).  Are you sure you are logged into your Team folder (red box)?

@jhackney1972 That's probably because Martin was offline.

@martin.neunzert Can you please share the Fusion logs for us to troubleshoot. Also, can you please attempt with another keyboard?

The Edit on Web icon is there, I just cleaned up the image slightly to focus attention on the highlighted file name. Here’s another screenshot.

Also I’m running as a single user, as seen here:

Single user Storage is legacy and not recommended for use anymore. This was announced at least two years ago.

You should transfer all your projects to a team hub, even as a single user.

This might not fix the renaming issue, but is still recommended.

The Job Status indicator said I was definitely working online and my files were being opened and saved as normal.

I don’t have another keyboard to try right now; this one works normally within Fusion and all my other applications.

I’m not sure at this point how to share a log; I can figure that out it it were to cover renaming a folder or file.

I set up a team on 17 November 2022. Today, when I try to create a new project within that team, I cannot rename it. The project name is highlighted but I can’t type in new characters.

Hey @martin.neunzert, Did you try @TrippyLighting 's suggestion for generating logs. It will help us take a closer look at what's happening.

Hey all,

I've been having the same issue during the past couple of weeks, also on MacOS X Sonoma (14.5) and even after the latest update of Fusion 360. From what I can tell, something else in the application is grabbing modal keyboard focus and not permitting any keystrokes to the rename field.

Keyboard shortcuts assigned in the application appear to take priority, and typing, for instance, the letter "F" supposedly in the rename text field result in the Fillet dialog popping up.

I'm attaching my log file here for reference. This is right after updating to the June 10 release (v.2.0.19440) and launching the application so everything should be fresh and clean. I also reinstalled Fusion 360 not very long time ago to clean up some old junk, so that should also not be a problem.

As an interim workaround, I've had to click "Open on the Web" and make the necessary changes in the web workspace instead of doing that directly within Fusion 360. Annoying but at least there's a way until the problem is fixed.

Hi,

I have the same issue, can't rename anything in the data panel which is really annoying! Yes, the workaround to rename on the web is working but time consuming.... would be great to have a solution here soon!

How can this problem still be here?

While I can’t answer the question about why we’re still talking about this problem 144 days after first I posted it, I can offer a clue for troubleshooting it. My workaround has been to use my Mac laptop when I need to rename folders or files.

Curiously, both my desktop Mac computer (where the issue is) and my Mac laptop (where everything works perfectly) are are running the same operating system:

MacOS Sequoia Version 15.2

Here is the information about my version of Fusion:

Fusion 2.0.20981 arm64 [Native]
Active Plan: Subscription
macOS 15.2 (24C101) on Mac14,3

Martin,

I had an Autodesk support agent look at this on my computer and did quite a bit of troubleshooting myself as well. We figured out that the problem was somewhere in the interface between Fusion and the driver for the Wacom tablet, which I use instead of a mouse or touchpad.

As a workaround, I now have a touchpad connected to the computer and use it only to activate the relevant text field before entering a new filename, name for a folder, part number, and even search terms for fasteners.

While that adds unnecessary clutter and I had to dust off an old touchpad after a long time, at least that workaround avoids the completely unnecessary visit to the web interface for the time being.

But as you, I’m hoping to see Autodesk solve that problem sometime soon.

Thanks for the tip @mputaala. We are trying, but just that there are tons of other things pushing this out. I'm hoping that team could pick this up soon.

Thank you for the reply. I first started having the issue intermittently
about a year ago. And I believe the forums are full of the problem from as
far back as a few years. It just does not seem to get fixed in spite of many
many updates.

Thank you for pointing out the workaround! I also can‘t believe that little issue is still not solved!! I have this problem for several months now and already had 2 really long support calls, but nobody found out it could be the Wacom. I also use the Wacom tablet for all my work on the Mac. I have the same problem on my laptop where I also work with a Wacom.

It‘s really annoying that you seem to have found the reason together with Autodesk but it‘s still not solved.

I know Autodesk might have lots of other priority, BUT hey, we are talking about simply renaming files!! Such a basic thing….
