Unable to open .3mf files. What is Fusion Team?

I have a 3MF file that I was wanting to open as it should have some parametric features that I need to modify to make a 3D print. When I try to open the file, I get an error message stating that "this file type cannot be opened." I can assure that the file is a valid 3MF file. I did some searching and did not come across anyone having this issue. All pages I can find state that you can easily open a .3mf file in Fusion by just opening it.

I decided to try to save my own 3MF file to see if I can open the resulting file, and when I get to the save dialog box, I am alerted, in bright red text, that "the 3MF file format isn't viewable in Fusion Team." What is Fusion Team? How do I open Fusion so that I am not in Fusion Team? I use Autodesk Fusion Personal (Not for Commercial Use) version as I use it for hobby 3D print designs.

hey,

have the same problem, but could work around it by selecting to the concrete file ending. In my case just selecting .3mf as file extension. Looks like a minor but annoying bug so.

Thanks for the solution! It works if only the "3MF" file extension is searched. This is a bug in FUSION !!!!

@klausKYQW8

I am able to use "open", "upload" and "insert mesh" to import a 3mf file and open it in Fusion. Can you take a screenshot of what you're seeing - which dialog is causing the problem?

The "bug" is: you can "upload" a local .3mf file to the cloud and edit it with Fusion 360, but if you do File Open, from my computer, it fails (file type not supported)

Unfortunately, I can only speak for the German Fusion, but I think the problem is the same in the English version.

In German version select: "Netz/Einfügen/Netz einfügen/Select on computer ..." It will open an "Insert-Windows.

in the right lower corner your default Select is "Netzdateien ( *. 3mf, *.obj. *.stl)"

but in the browserwindos in the midle you dont see "*.3mf" files.

Fusion 3mf einfügen V3.png

But if you select "3MF file ( *. 3mf)" then in the Midle Browserwindows you can see the *.3mf file.

I suspect the file extension "*.3MF" in the default filter.

On MacOS you can only upload 3mf to the cloud, not edit it in the local app. I did successfully "insert mesh" from a 3MF though.
I don't understand why I just can't open one from File Open (understanding of course there are some things it can't edit/render).

Strange. I can do all of the following on my mac (15.5) and PC (Windows 10):

  • File - Open from my computer - select 3mf, it uploads
  • File - Upload
  • Insert Mesh - select 3mf, it uploads

The only issue I noticed was in one session on my PC, the "OK" was be grayed out in the file selection dialog. On restart, it worked as expected.

Mine were all made in Fusion, maybe that is a difference? Here is a sample. Can someone share a sample design they created? Also, what OS are you all on?
