Unable to Edit a Copied Body

I have created a coil (via the Create menu) and then copied it.

Now I'd like to make a change to the copied coil.  But I am not able to get an edit menu for it.  I can get an edit menu for the original but not for the copy.  I've tried everything I can think of but can't get an edit menu for the copy which would let me change its attributes.

Thanks,  Bob

The problem is you have duplicated a body which are the same entity.  You cannot edit the copied one because it is really an instance of the first.  You need to switch to copying components, then the component bodies are different and you can edit each one separately.  Take a look at my Screencast.

Thank you very much jhackney1972

And thanks especially for the screencast.  Very helpful!

The distinction between bodies and components seems to be one of the more difficult aspects of Fusion 360.  Are there any rules of thumb which can avoid most problems.  Should I promote all of my bodies to components as soon as possible?

Thank again!  Your help is much appreciated.

File structuring -

In the sticky threads there is a link to

Rule No 1 and 2.

A good working knowledge of that, and knowing the answer to

what do I want this model for?

Will / should direct your steps within Fusion.

Might help....

As far a creating Components versus Bodies, it depends on what you want to do.  Components are required if you want to create an assembly using Joints.  You can create a model of nothing but bodies, save it, and then insert it if you like as a linked component in an assembly.  One word of caution if you know you want to create a component in your model, create the Component first, then all your sketches and bodies will fall under it.  You will find the Create Component command under the Create dropdown.  You can create a component from bodies but then the associated sketches may not be under the component.
