Two users on the same drawing/part makes the version skip

Hello,

I've run into an annoying issue when trying to work distributed with another user.

The scenario is as follows:

I'm working on a part/drawing and when i'm done I save it as version V2. I keep the window open since I will continue working on the project later.

The other user opens up V2 and starts editing the drawing/part. When he is done he saves it as V3.

I go back to the part/drawing and for me V2 is still open in my window so I start editing that one. Sometimes there's a quick infosquare in the bottom right warning that there's a newer version but it only light up for a few seconds and is therefore easy to miss.

When I'm done I save the part/drawing and it saves as V4, hence skipping V3 with my collegues changes.

What's the best way to handle this issue? I my opinion the infosquare should stay until closed to confirm that the user knows that there's a newer version.

Of course I can pay closer attention to the version number when saving to see if it skips but by then it's too late.

Thanks in advance:)

Hi @mansolander,

What you are seeing is really what is expected. The data panel will show when a file is in-use by either of you so when opening you know that its in-use and could have pending changes.

Fusion is not a concurrent save and merge software. Meaning your changes wont merge together and you'd have to reload the others changes manually. This might change in the future, but for now its not this way and you will continue to see what you are seeing.

I do think the warning that a newer version exists should pop up longer - or not be cleared until its manually dismissed or reloaded something that team could look at implementing in the future.

Thanks for the reply Ryan. I'm still not sure how I should handle this. I understand what you're saying but to me it seems like a big risk of skipping versions. You say that it's visible in the Data Panel that someone else is working on the same project but when working with several designs i can have several tabs open so I might not open the project from the data panel. And if I just look away for a second or two I will miss the warning. Now I'm aware of the situation but it's too easy to make that mistake in my opinion. It would be great if you could look into changing the warning to be manually dismissed 🙂 I'll just be extra attentive for now! Thanks
