Two copies of Fusion installed on Mac

While trying to manage storage on my MacBook Pro, I discovered that there are two complete copies of Fusion 360 in the Application Support folder, each around 7gb. One is dated this month, the other last month (May). This isn't the first time this has happened, and the last time I simply deleted the older one – then Fusion 360 stopped working! I had to remove it completely and reinstall.

Does anyone have a solution to this? Or at least a reason why it happens? I suspect that on one of the numerous updates, the old version wasn't deleted. But manually deleting it doesn't seem to work.

@wedgelock @Do you participate in the Fusion Insider by any chance? I assume you have deleted both now and installed the latest version but the next time you see it please let us know and having your log files at that point could help understand what could be happening.

No I don't participate, but I haven't done anything yet. The two copies are still there. What would you like me to do?

@wedgelock @If you have not done anything let’s do this

1. Go to the launchpad

2. in here do you see two Fusion launchers?

3. if you do can you launch each one and see if each of these are asking you to update ?

4, Often times how you end up with two folders are when you do a live update the entire folder of the previous version May-not be cleared.

5. Does each of these folders have 7GB worth of data ?

6. Launch each of the product and go to Help-Support and diagnostics - get diagnostics logs. This will generate a zip file. Attach the zip file for each of the version.

There's only one launch icon. I opened Fusion and there was another update. I updated, then checked the hard disk map. Before there were two identical copies of 6.9gb. Now there's one-and-a-half. One of 6.9gb and another of 2.9gb, which contains many duplicated folders.

@wedgelock Thanks for attaching the image and also the log files. So I can certainly tell you that you are not having two installs of Fusion 360.

The files that you see in there are the folders we leave behind after a live update (those are where the older version files were available). We typically clean up almost everything in the older folder but could leave certain files behind if we do not find the right permissions to delete the files etc.

For now go ahead and delete the 2ish GB file. There should be another update available shortly and we can test to see if the folder that is left behind is still a large folder.
