Trouble creating shells next to one another.

I want to create a puzzle using this image:

JBP.png

To do this I'm extruding all the black sections out by 10mm and then I'd like to extrude each colored piece out by 5mm and create a 1.5mm shell out of it. I then will create a piece that will snap into each 5mm shell piece.

The trouble I'm encountering is when I have two shells next to each other it won't create a complete inside shell out of the sketch, and will instead overlap with neighboring extrusions.

Attached is the problem I'm running into along with a simple example of the kind of puzzle I'm talking about (an Abraham Lincoln puzzle, two pieces).

Any help is much appreciated.

Cool 🙂

It looks as if you're probably intending to create separate bodies for each extrude, but you've ended up with the default JOIN instead. If the new extrusion is right up next to a previously-created solid, then the default is to just add them together as one solid.
