Text in sketch bug after the 2604.0.316 update

I just updated fusion 360 to version 2604.0.316.
I noticed that i have to put text in Sketch with ' character before and after the text. otherwise it will not work and i will get an error red text in the text box.
Why the software force me to put ' (upper comma) before and after the text?
Is is the new normal behaviour or some new version bug?

This is due to the new ability to use parameters in Text,

This is Covered in the What's new page:

Has anyone found a way to type "can't" or "isn't" in a textbox after the update? There is a reason programming languages tend to use doubled symbols in situations like this.

I just ran into sam problem. The usage of " ' " in the field causes problems to put any text that uses this character.
I didnt find solution to this situation 😞

Hmm

I thought you may be able to create a parameter with the apostrophe but that doesn't work either.

Seems like a pretty big oversight.

As a work around you can type alt+0145  or alt+0146 for left and right quotation marks that will work

Wouldn't be the first seemingly obvious oversight I've seen in an update. Hopefully it gets corrected quickly though, as it makes trying to create signage quite annoying. Another workaround I found is to create a sketch using the text tool shortcut instead of making a sketch and then clicking the text tool.

For example, I have my text tool set to CTR+T and when I click this and then select a surface or plane, the sketch begins with the text tool already active. For some reason (probably a bug/oversight) this bypasses making the textbox parametric so you don't get the single apostrophes. Thus, no issue using it in your text either.

Looks and acts just like the old textbox.

I swapped back to classic theme (again) because dark mode still has a color issue with being unable to change the background of the drawing space. Despite being out of beta now. It's so dark anything you put outside the page (references or extra bits of modeling you make detailed views off of) are very hard to see.

Auto tables never fit my projects, so I keep the auto one off to the side and rewrite it with blended first and full levels to make easier for the shop guys to read.

I tried dark mode beta back in April and ran into 6 issues like this within 30 min of using dark mode. So I gave up on it until full release. And that was after it had already been in beta for over 3 months. Internal testing could be improved before features are released.

I have since learned the "Correct" way to fix this is to use an "Escape Character"

so putting a Backslash before the single quote tells in not to be interpreted as the end of the string

'dont\'t'

I'll remove the accepted solution from my other reply as this one is more correct.

It is much better solution. I teste it also in other languages and it is working just fine.
Thanks!

Excellent solution! You can also use that for tab and new line with \t and \n respectively. Still annoying to not have a way to toggle the textbox as either normal or configurable because I see myself using apostrophes far more often that configured text, but hey I'll take what I can get for now.

I can't seem to make the \ trick work. Here's the text I'm using:

'\"Test\"'

Is that right??

EDIT: Figured it out... I had another ' in the text and forgot to \ it

No just like this:

'"Test"'

For Double Quotes

The \ is only needed when you want a single quote to appear in the text

There should be a global option to OPT OUT of this, as it is highly annoying, especially when you want to use ' in the text you are writing

It should default to non-parametric, with a button to enable it, as only a very few people would ever use parameters when they input text.

I know it is a nice feature, but it is disruptive to workflow when you cannot change default behavior.

I would never use this with parameters, and having to write stuff in '' every time is annoying.

Please give us a global setting to DISABLE this by default, then we can click the fx button whenever we want to use parameters in a text box instead.

yeah, having to place foreign characters to override this is not confusing at all. What if I wanted a formula after a \ sign in the text?

Solution. Default to plain text globally, let users rather Select to use parameters by clicking a button whenever they actually need to use it.

The only time \ is useful is for the characters t for tab, ' to bypass the text function, n for new line, or \ if you want to make this symbol visible and it is followed by one of the other function characters. Otherwise keep everything inside one pair of ' characters to make Fusion happy.

I 100% agree though that this should be off by default and something you choose to enable on a per-textbox basis. We shouldn't need to do this much experimenting to understand what workarounds to use just to maintain normal functionality for a textbox.
