Surfaces in drawings

I have a body that I want to detail in a drawing, but when I start the drawing, a popup informs me that meshes, t-splines and surface bodies will not be represented in the drawing. This happens even after I've converted the body to a component. Is there a way to represent a free-form surface in a drawing?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for your posting! Smiley Happy

If you have the surfaces, the error message will show. however you can create a drawing except the surfaces. Would you mind sharing your design file? Here is how to share it.

My email address is "ahreum.ryu@autodesk.com"

I look forward to your reply.

Many thanks,

Ahreum.

Correct. You cannot currently create a drawing from a surface body. No matter what components it's located in. You could, as a workaround thicken it a small amount and so create a solid body.

Thanks for the reply. I solved the problem by using the surface to trim an underlying body. The disadvantage is that I lost the body I trimmed, so I guess I’ll need two separate files, one for the blank and one for the finished object. I would like to turn features on and off on different sheets of the drawing so I can show the part in different stages of machining in the same drawing, but that doesn’t seem to be possible.

I've just run into this trying to create drawings for some concept art.  The main object is a t-spline body split into surfaces for rendering purposes.   I'm shocked that the model will not display in a drawing.  I can't see the logic for this.  I just want to show O-all dimensions.  Fusion team please bump this one up the ladder...it's been a problem for many years it appears.

Hi,

Make sure solids are generated e.g. by (minimal) thickening, then it is possible.

Autodesk Inventor Professional already has this functionality and has for years.

The Thicken command is located in either the Solid or the Surface toolbar.
