Subcomponents update interfering with contact sets in simulation

Employee F_ was working continuously on the subcomponents used in an assembly and saving each time.

Employee_G was working on the file/assembly in the simulation space. Employee_G was defining the contact sets between volumes (bonded, glued, welded, bolted etc), set the materials, set the gravity, and the dynamic forces from a distance that will exert a physical force on the assembly, angle of the forces, wind load etc. This work needs to be manual, customized and can take quite a long time to do since there are so many physical instances whereby the volumes intersect.

when Employee_F was saving the updates to the subcomponents and every time that Employee_G opened the assemblies all the contact sets, fastener, load cases and materials definitions were lost.

Is this a glitch ? or normal to lose all contact sets etc in simulation space when subcomponents are updated?

Hello @patFL8CT ,

Yes when we update the sub components we tend to lose the contacts as new faces/edges will be generated.

What I would recommend is to utilise the simplify workspace which is available in the simulation environment and create a simulation model with only the required component for you model and exclude all other components.

I've encountered a similar problem. After modifying geometry, I discover that a previously created manual contact set (separation, 18 surfaces total) has been transformed into six different contact sets (bonded). I can change them back into separation contacts, but its fussy because I have to do it six times. They're no longer organized into a single set, so they're harder to check too. The six new contact sets have "automatically created" status, so I also can't delete them and start over. I use a lot of contacts so it's nice to be able to keep them organized. Are there any plans to allow deletion of automatically generated contact sets? (I guess this is really a question for Autodesk)
