SpacePilot Pro view buttons not functioning as expected

The back and bottom dedicated view buttons on my SpacePilot Pro (SPP) do not function properly in Fusion 360. Back gives the same view as front, and bottom gives the same view as top. All the other view buttons work as expected. Back and bottom are long-press commands (e.g., long-press top to get bottom), but so is left (long-press right) and that works.

I have tried the SPP with other software and all of the buttons work. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the SPP software, Fusion 360, rebooted, and tried other USB ports. I have also tried mapping other keys with the SPP software (e.g., map the back command to the 1 button) but the same thing happens (1/back and front both show the front view).

Since the SPP is working with other software, the problem appears to be with Fusion 360. Is there a setting that I am missing? Any way to configure these buttons from the Fusion 360 side?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Fusion community!

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you have been having when trying to work with your SpacePilot!

Usually when I see issues like this pop up, it is due to some out of date drivers. Could you ensure that you are using the most updated drivers for the SpacePilot? I'm not sure when you had last tried to update the drivers, but it looks like there was a set of drivers released on September 19 of this year. Would you mind trying to download those to see if that improves the behavior?

If that all checks out and the behavior has not receded, I'm going to need to get this logged up with the development team. A quick search through our bug database didn't return any issues quite like this.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns - I am always happy to lend a hand!

Cheers,

Mike Tessier

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to the Fusion 360 community! Thanks for posting.

Fusion 360 is still not officially supported by 3D Connexion, so sometimes we see some imperfect behavior. We found that we were able to program the numbered buttons to the back view. but that the long press does seem to be failing. Unfortunately I do not have a workaround for this problem.

If you are having difficulties with the navigation buttons with the SpacePilot Pro, you may consider using the view cube. Firstly, clicking any face on the view cube will bring you to that view, but this will not take advantage of the Spacemouse. You could also right click the view cube while looking at a Bottom view and set the current view as the Top when working in models that you need a bottom view of consistently. You could also create a named view of the bottom by viewing the model from the bottom, right clicking the named views folder in the browser, and selecting "New Named View" for the bottom view - you may be able to program this to the Spacemoust.

The instructions for setting up a Spacemouse for Fusion are included here, but you may experience some odd behavior because Fusion is not officially supported. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope to be formally supported by 3D Connexion in the future.

Thanks for the reply. My issue is with a fresh install of the 10.5.2 driver from the Sept 19 release. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling when I first had the issue. Perhaps the new driver is the issue? 10.5.2 is the only driver I have ever tried with Fusion 360. I can download an older version next time I am at my computer.

@paul.claussThe long-press buttons do work, but the way it is interpreted by Fusion 360 (or the command that is sent) is wrong. The "Bottom" command and the "Top" command do the same thing, even if I program the commands to different buttons (e.g., using the SPP number pad with 1 = bottom, 2 = top). The screen capture below shows my configuration where both 1 and 2 show the top view. This is with the latest driver from the 3DConnexion website.

My solution was to create a Fusion 360 Add-In that changes the views. I can then program the buttons on my SPP to execute the various functions of the Add-In. When using my Add-In, short-press Front and long-press Back work as expected (Top/Bottom work as well). Side note: if Fusion 360 had hotkeys for views, that would have saved me a bunch of time.

@mike.tessierIt looks like a bug to me, but I cannot tell on which end (Fusion 360 or 3DConnexion).
