Solid sweep failure with "Parallel" option

I am attempting to apply the solid sweep function to a fairly simple set of geometry. I am finding that the solid sweep operation succeeds with the "perpendicular" option selected but fails to solve when the "parallel" option is selected. For this application, the two options produce very different results, and the "parallel" option is necessary to capture the design intent. The error message provided is:

"The operation failed. Try adjusting the values or changing the input geometry."

I have tried adjusting the path (location of path beginning, eliminate cusp, etc.) but the behavior appears to be insensitive. It is likewise insensitive to selecting join/cut/new body options.

For this particular model, it is trivial to replace the solid sweep operation with a simple extrude. However, it seems that either something is broken in the solid sweep implementation, or else the documentation and error message are missing important information regarding its limitations/application. This failure appears to be related to the behavior reported in this post from May of this year.
