Slider Joint Binds Objects Together

I am following this guys tutorial on joints in Fusion, and where the video is is where I am currently at:

But when I do the slider joint the preview is just fine, but when I hit OK and try and move it, it move the two things I selected like they were both in a RigidGroup, and don't even slide at all.

What part of your model is grounded?

Any chance you show us your problem? 

Showing us how it should work, is a good start, so I take it you have done what he has done.

 

We will need some detail, the base not grounded could have been the problem, apparently not.

I think we'll need to see the design itself to see what's going on.  One thing to note:  The preview of the Joint only shows the two specific components you selected moving - it does not do a full assembly solve.  My guess is that all those components are joined together rigidly somehow, which is why you see the behavior you do at the end of that video.

Fixed jaw is not fixed, when I grounded it, the slider works as expected by click drag so far.

OH! That makes sense, so what I'm getting is that if you want to have a joint, whatever that joint is attached to, needs to at some point be attached to something that is grounded?

You cant generalise like that, but yep, 

most assemblies have a base article, it should be grounded, and in your case was, 

I didn't watch all the video this time,

but for an assembly like that, all the stationary parts - base, fixed jaw, both fixed jaw bolts,  etc. are normally gathered up in a rigid group, to save grounding them all one at a time.  You may have missed that step.

 

With the limited detail earlier, my first guess was grounding, but as you were a fair way into the video, I didn't think of the fixed jaw at the time.

the reason for what you see is that both of the jaws of your vise are not constrained to anything.  so, when you create the slider, you only picked the two jaws.  This creates a slider between those two sets of component, but not between either jaw and the base.  Instead, create two sliders - one from each half of the jaws to the base, and the motion will be more what you expect:
