Sketches and Construction lines disappear when editing

I'm trying to edit some sketches by moving them onto the construction line - but when I edit the sketch the construction lines disappear (please see attached) as do the sketches.  I've tried the following

- Preferences | Design | Auto hide sketch on feature creation (uncheck it)

- Wireframe mode

- Removing constraints 

etc.

History is not understood.

Place all at same time in history.

Because you are editing the L sketch, anything after that will be hidden by the system, until you finish the edit.  Exit the sketch your sketches come back.

Expected behaviour, when using a Timeline version of the program.
