Sketcher broke, and can't revert to previous version

No screencast audio because of background noise.

 

The sketcher seems to have broken in this design; when I try to constrain an unconstrained line it tells me it will be overconstrained.

 

Then when I tried to revert to the previously saved version, I couldn't.

 

I tried following the help instructions but when I hover near the folder icon the icon that's supposed to appear doesn't.

I tried exporting the design as an .f3z, but it failed after 15 min.

 

Finally found the darn .f3d after waiting 15 min for search to complete; attached.

 

The screencast showed in the post preview, not sure why it didn't appear, but the link is https://autode.sk/33v1mgT

 

I tried to search my computer for the .f3d but only two out of dozens came

Open your file.

If the component in question is external - make it local.

File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

 

If the sketch in your screencast is a single sketch - it is far far far too complicated.

Use several small sketches rather than one large sketch.

Most Fillets should be done as placed features rather than in sketch.

What component? The problem is in sketch mode.

A sketch can only be created in a Component (either at top level or sub-component).

Ah; it's an internal component.

 

Even if it wasn't, not sure how that could explain the problem suddenly occurring after having edited the sketch hundreds of times before.

Be careful doing this if you are not sure -

Can you save a copy of the file, delete all of the extraneous stuff and Attach the cleaned up file here? (Only interested in the sketch in problem statement.)

OK, attached.

 

The problem isn't as bad now.

 

I still couldn't change the rightmost vertical line's dimension to Driving, but it did let me create a new one and dimension it, which I couldn't do before deleting the rest of the design.

 

Are model files still called designs?

 

I really dislike that terminology because it creates confusion when you want to refer to a design.

 

If you're not sure what I'm saying, I rest my case.

From my experience - this should be at least 3-5 separate sketches.

I would expect to have issues with a sketch like this (in any parametric MCAD software).

I know that now but this was one of my first projects and I didn't learn that out until I was deep into it with dozens of parts and joints.

 

I understand that big sketches kill performance but not why it would make sketching malfunction.
