Sketch Dimensioning Highlights a Non-existent Line

When I identify the line I want to dimension, a non-existent line is highlighted.  One endpoint is correct but the other endpoint is not.   Whats the Point.png

In this case the right endpoint is correct but I have no idea where the left endpoint comes from.  My intention is to specify the dimension between the origin (the right end) and the first vertical line to the left.  But when I continue from this point I am allowed to specify only the dimension of the highlighted line shown above.   This has happened to me more than once in trying to create this sketch.

Thanks for any advice or pointers anyone can provide.   Bob

Please attach the model you are seeing this problem in.  Hard to tell anything without it.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

The reason that line is overlapping is because there is a gap in the box bottom line.  The Screencast will explain.  You really do not need this line to dimension your sketch but you can use it if you have some reason not obvious to me.  If I missed something let me know.

Thank you VERY much John for an extremely helpful response!  I would find Fusion 360 very difficult to use without the help you participants here such as you!
