Skech on spherical face

Dears.

I have checked all the web and Youtoobes but could not get any solution.

I have a spherical surface on my part and a skech on the ofsetted (XY) plane. I want to project the skech on the surface for engravement later on.

Please see the pictures attached.

It is fine when a skech contains some closed contours like rectangles, circles and so on.

But in this case my skech only contains some curved line. Unfortunately simple skech projection comands do not work.

Any ideaas or advice please.02.jpg01.jpg

Project should work. Are you created another sketch to create the projections in? You can't create projects from objects within the current active sketch.

By the way you don't need to project the 2d sketch, you could use Project in the Manufacture workspace under 3D ops. This might actually produce a better toolpath.

As i mention Project does not work: I get an error message

Project to surface failed, please check the surface or the vector!

My skech #1 is the one i extrude a body

My skech #2 is on the ofset'ed XY plane just above the rounded face

I create skech #3. CREATE, PROJECT, PROJECT TO SURFACE... i select a spherical surface as a face and my line as a curve. No other setting matter, i gett the same result.

I dit is like all the youtoobe lessons. just the difference is that i use a single line instead of a contour or text.

YES. Project in Manufacture workspace 3D ops is doing the job just fine. Thank You..

You can extrude the line as a surface and then use the surface to split the face of the body.

OK I see the problem, it happens if you have a spline that crosses itself. @jeff_strater  is this a known bug?

I've attached a file with a project that works, if you drag an endpoint so the spline crosses itself it fails.

Works OK without crossing.
