Sihouette split still does not work on almost any geometry, any computer, any account, and apparently never has

I asked about this first more than a year and a half ago;  Why does the silhouette split not work at all?  Try making almost any part of significant complexity, for example, a simple helix.  It either returns nonsensical results or returns an error.  If I export the part to solidworks, I can use the split line feature to split the part at the isocline, which is the same thing.  So it's not impossible to do or anything, solidworks can do it. 

They add feature after feature, rearrange the user interface and everything, but basic stuff still doesn't work?

The Sihouette Split command works just fine.  Take a look at this Blog Article and Video to see some uses and the proper way to use it.

Honestly, it does not work.  Sorry about my previous tone.... no excuses really.

But totally doesn't work.

It works with a tilted cylinder, now, at least.  But there is clearly the smaller rod here, which should be split.  The view direction was the z axis.  It split the large cylinder fine, but not the smaller one.  Because it's not part of the silhouette?  It is.  It's not a completely trivial geometry.

The problem is I have to export everything to IGES and then import it back again.  Of course this is impossible to use in combination with any other modelling, because all history and everything is lost.  It is only useful in rare circumstances.

Please post your model and explain and let the forum users give it a go.  I will agree it is a temperamental command but it will work in most situations.

There is a link to the model.  It's a pretty trivial model, and the problem applies to almost any model.  Maybe it only works for models where the isocline is visible from the view direction, but that's not very useful.  I have needed the isocline split in many instances many times over the years, especially when 3d machining, and always the way solidworks does it, not the way fusion is doing it here.  I don't know why no one else has noticed this.

Looks like I might have to commission a plugin to get this done.  I have no idea how much that would cost or if it is viable.

Since your model has the post twisted as it intersects the large cylinder, the silhouette split is offset in on area but it executes it as expected.  I agree it is not as a developed command as you will find in Inventor or maybe Solidworks, (which I have not experience with) but it works for most symmetrical models.  Model is attached.

I don't know what this function is supposed to be for, but that it's doing as predicted doesn't help me get it to do what needs to be done...  I have had this problem many times over a long time.   I think I posted about it way back a yeah and a half ago.  I guess I will have to try to write a plugin that does what needed or something.  That would mean hiring someone.  Maybe I can make some money back by selling the plugin in the plugin store.  Doesn't much seem like it, unfortunately.
