Sigh.. "box" SOLID behavior flaked out

Click Solid

Click Box

Click a face/plane whatever

Click First Corner
Click Second Corner  or use type-tab-type-enter

Here is where you expect "height" but all of a sudden instead of being asked for HEIGHT I get a dialog called "PLACEMENT" with "FACE" on the button and highlighted blue.

Playing along - if I click a "FACE" the dialog then asks for a HEIGHT but WIDTH AND LENGTH are ZERO and RED.  Of course typing numbers there does nothing, as the F360 has lost track of what it was supposed to be doing.

Restart - no help

Behavior - random depending on what plane/face is selected and where first corner is placed.

I am sure - as always this is 'expected'

No - i will not be posting a screen capture - the capture tool is so slow on a mac that it is useless.

I just tried it and it worked fine for me.

But I am going to suggest an alternate technique.

Start a new 2D sketch.

Sketch a Rectangle, dimension as desired and Extrude.

Hello Beananimal-

I tried your steps and everything worked correctly.  I was not able to recreate the "placement" issue you were referring to.

It would be helpful to have a screen recording so we can see the steps you are doing and the results you are getting.

I recommend going to the File menu, then Share, then Launch Screencast Recorder.  It will allow you to record your screen and post it here.  If that is the screen capture program you said was slow, there are other free screen capture programs out there that would let you record the screen.

Thank you-

Brad

Thank you for the responses!
Not really looking for help as much as reporting yet another flaky issue.

The "solid box" feature was working as expected until today. I have not experimented enough to determine if F360 is corrupt or (more likely) something in the drawing has flaked out. Wouldn't be the first time. I have had a few other issues where drawings become corrupt somehow and things go sideways.

As for making a sketch for every single solid - yeah um no. Just more wasted time and useless file litter to clean up or cause unwanted or flaky behavior. Building simple solids should not be complicated 😉

As fo the screen capture -The Autodesk "screen capture" recorder is pretty much not usable on a (this?) Mac. The lag between clicking start capture and any response is several minutes at best. It may take another 3-5 minutes just to outline the active window in red, etc. FWIW this Mac Pro  XEON with 32GB Ram and a Qaudro K4000 video card....  I assume not everyone has this issue, so maybe it doesn't like the video card or something.

No desire whatsoever to add another capture option just to upload videos to AD forums. Not sure what that would help in this case - as I have no idea how to actually tell anybody how to reproduce the behavior.

You being in such a hurry,

Seems to me like you have hit enter twice, Check the Browser body created?

and it’s doing another box.

Might help....

Thanks for the response - def not hitting enter twice. I think it has something to do with sub-bodies being hidden - but have not been able to narrow it down. I fiddled for an hour or so trying to generate steps to repeat the behavior, but can't.  It honestly feels like the box command is losing track of the data points, depending on where the first corner is placed.

Anyway - thanks for the input - I just noticed my info screen indicates a new version has "landed" and I need to restart. (Oddly - already restarted several times today, so not sure what is up there).

Still enjoying the view from that high horse I see... and clearly still can't resist the arrogant drive-by comments.

I've created 881 screencasts with the Autodesk Screencast tool. First on a mid-2010 27" iMac, for the last 3 years or so on a 15" 2016 MacBook Pro. I've not encountered any slowness with respect to screen recordings whatsoever. It works flawlessly.

If you are not willing to share the needed amount of information I am wondering what the purpose of your post is?

Edit: Just now re-read the thread and noticed that you are using an NVIDIA graphics card in a Mac. It is widely known that NVIDIA and Apple don't go along very well and even if these graphics cars can work in some instances, the drivers for that card introduced in 2013 are likely hopelessly outdated and don't receive any updates anymore.

I posted more out of frustration than anything, wondering if somebody else had seen the same behavior. Not much to see in a screencast, as the behavior is exactly as I described, and somewhat random.

i have not yet restarted to get the latest update formF360 - maybe this afternoon!

As for The Quadro - the Kepler  drivers and card are fully supported by Catalina.  I don’t have an issue with anything else, including heavy video encoding/decoding or 3D.  That said, my bet is that the screencast util is not at all happy for some reason. Who do I blame, Apple, Nvidia or Autodesk? They will all point fingers at each other. I never really looked to see if Autodesk has known issue with Kepler based cards.  Use the K4000 due to full VT-d support for heavy hyper-v use on PC side.

I have a GTX-1080 that I could swap in, but I don’t think it is worth the effort.
