Search in app and web completely useless/broken - is it just me ?

so i am doing a search by typing in part or the full name of a design and get only partial or no results. in the application itself it does that so i thought i'll check on the web. i have several designs in various project which contain the words 'base' or 'setup' or 'cam' in the name ... and get only partial or no results at all when i search for those words. obviously i have selected the ALL option in the view panel. where it gets really silly: on myhub homepage i have the right panel with my recent activity, i type the name of a file i see in the list there into the search box right above it and it doesn't return the file i can see on the same screen in the activity panel. wow ...

since we are not allowed to manage our files in a proper filesystem and are bound to the cloud where we can't move and organize projects we kind of really have to rely on a functioning search feature (both in the app and on the web portal) !

so what gives ???? honestly, making a search feature work is not exactly rocket science i think ... especially for a team of software engineers that developed such a complicated and complex software as Fusion ...

i would honestly prefer you would just give us access to our own filemanagement tools (windows/macos file explorer and finder) where we can move and organize files and folders like normal people, but since that's off the table please at least make the search feature work !

Hi @rumpelstielz

Thanks for posting. I found that I could reproduce this issue with certain files in my hubs, but most files worked when searching their specific names. The file I was able to recreate with was a .PNG file. I've logged ATEAM-16928 on this issue with the team. This is shown below - if you can provide another example I am happy to pass it along in the ticket.

Does this sound similar to the behavior you are experiencing, or are you receiving a "There is no object with ID Community [xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] present" message when attempting to search in the Data Panel or web browser? If so, have you recently transferred projects to or from the hub in which the problem is occurring? We have a known issue with search errors after project transfers, logged internally as ATEAM-14468.

Please confirm which of these options seems to be the issue on your system.

If you are working in a team hub, you could check out Desktop Connector as a method to work with your files in File Explorer/Finder. I'm happy to help you get set up with a team hub if you are not.

thx @paul.clauss .. this does not concern imported files (it might, i haven't checked, but that's not my issue at this point), i'm talking about Fusion designs created in Fusion. i have not used the hub for anything so no files moved, also only using a single computer and not logging in from different workstations.

I have not ever seen any error message about Object IDs, the phenomenon is as i described: i get partial or no results .. no errors (except "Hmmm... No results were found.")

if i type part of a filename, for example let's say the filename is test_01_15bases it will return other files that have that partial in the name but not this one or it will return nothing found.

so if i search for base it will return other files that have base or bases in the name (but not all of them and not this one), if i search for 15bases it will return nothing, if i search foor 15 or _15 it will return nothing. using wildcards does not change anything (do wildcards even work in this search?). it seems when searching for files that begin with the search term it will find things easier but for some files it won't.

i have not heard of teamhub .. since i work alone i usually stay away from things that start with team .. can i move files from one project to another .. can i move folders from one project to another or from one folder to another ?

Hi @rumpelstielz

Thanks for the example. If you'd like to invite me (paul dot clauss at autodesk dot com) to the project in which you cannot search for the design, I am happy to add another data point to our ticket on this issue. While this occurred for me with a PNG file in that particular example, I've seen it with other file formats and do not believe the PNG file was the trigger. A screencast or screenshots would also help me illustrate this to the dev team - it sounds like we are seeing the same issue with particular files not being searchable.

As this will need to be addressed by the development team on the back end, it may take some time to be resolved.

Team hubs don't necessarily mean you need to work in a team, but they do have some extra sharing and permissions options. They still have some of the same limitations with moving folders as personal hubs, but do allow to to insert components across folders and projects. You can learn more about team hubs here.

this does not concern a single project, as mentioned in my initial post i am searching across ALL files.

if the team hub has the same limitations is ee no point even investigating it, no offense.

Hi @rumpelstielz

Understood - you need to share projects in a personal hub, which I why I'd asked if you'd do so. I'm recreating by searching across all files as well and having an invite to a project containing one of the problem designs would allow me to search all my files and note if the ones you mentioned are missing in the results on my end as well. Thanks for your input.

This is still an issue in 2023. The online Hub search is completely useless to me. If I search for any part, whether by its full name or part of its name, I get no results. How is such a basic feature still broken 5 years later?

Same for me. The search does not work as expected...actually for me it was not usable.

I get the same results. If I search "3d printer mods" I get 'no results'. If I search "3d" , "no results". "mods", "no results".
