Revolute joint misaligns the zero

Got two components here made from two separate sketches. They're part of a flat assembly that's popped up into 3d using a parameter. The revolute joint seems to forget what zero is every time I change the pop-up parameter. The above screenshots show how it behaves when popped up; I've tried setting the position shown in the second screenshot as the home position, and when I lay it flat again it ends up like this.
(yes, including the 39 degrees. not sure why it didn't stay at "zero" when i pressed set home.)
I have no idea why it behaves like this. I've tried redefining the plane of the sketch that the right-hand component was drawn on, just in case; I've tried deleting the joint entirely and redoing it, taking care to set the axis to the border between the two instead of simply using the Z axis; and I can't think of anything else to try. I'm currently flipping back and forth between writing this and remaking the entire last third of the design. Is there anything I can do in the future to fix this/prevent it from happening?
