Repair Failed, reinstall says its already installed

FYI if you a repair/reinstall and it fails due to file permissions or such, and then you try to reinstall fusion it'll say its already installed and ask you to run it which will fail (which i did because reset didn't work and it wouldn't launch beyond a white screen with two gizmos)

so you have add or remove and uninstall it completely then attempt a clean install.

it'd be nice if the installer had a normal repair mode and skip the add remove, install from scratch.

though after the repair, then remove and clean install still had the same exact issue...

windows x64 10 latest version of fusion

@charliex2 Can you please go to the Fusion service utility and then run the "gather system info" and attach the diagnostic logs.zip file that is generated? This could give ideas on why Fusion is not launching for you.

@charliex2 Got the logs. Thank you.

You are certainly on the latest build 2.0.16761. I am not seeing some of the logs that I expect to see and hence can you please do the below?

1. Close Fusion 360 and make sure the exe is not running
2. launch service utility
3. Run - Reset
4. Now launch Fusion 360

Does it help?

If it does not then can you please send me the logs again from this point.

@charliex2 I don't need the windows logs (atleast yet). Also, please check to see if there are any graphics driver update that is needed. It could be possible that the latest version would need a driver update if they have not been updated for a while.

@charliex2 Thank you for the logs again. I am still not seeing the logs that I was hoping for. This shows that the software is not even connecting behind the scenes. I first need to figure out why that is happening before we can look at other options.

Some more tests please:

1. Disconnect internet
2. launch Fusion

Is it launching now?

Test #2:

1. Go to https://login.autodesk360.com/login
2. Login
3. Go to a design - and select Open in desktop

What happens?

Results from these tests will help determine what we need to run next to understand why this is happening.

@charliex2 Looks like you were able to launch it once in offline mode. This and the fact you are not generating an application log likely makes it possible that this is some network issue likely. Although the network diagnostics pass that list is not a full comprehensive list of checks.

1. Is it possible for you to connect to say like a hotspot to see if that makes a difference?

2. In the past a reset to a router has fixes similar issues

Does any of this help ?

Accepted solution

uninstalled via add remove, removed fusion 360 folder from documents

since the fusion uninstaller leaves a lot behind

I deleted

appdata\roaming\autodesk and local,
deleted Autodesk from ProgramData,

Fusion360 from Roaming

deleted all relevant autodesk and fusion360 items from registry that i could find

installed fusion360, logged in, answered usage data questions, fusion opened , popped open the See whats new screen and promptly froze.

@charliex2 OK. At this point it certainly should have generated the application logs. Can you please generate one more diagnosticslogs.zip please?

Except it works just fine on the second PC sitting next to the first that is on the same switch segment and goes via the same network, and has a nearly identical setup and i've been using it day til it stopped working

the second pc is updating fusion, so i will see if it still launches ok after that.....

it launched just fine, so its not very likely to be the network given they're on the same switch.

i have been able to run it a about 8 times in a row now, so i think deleting all files on disk/registry did fix it (at least for now) and that first launch after i did that just didn't work

so my guess is the uninstaller should remove the rest of the data.
