Reordering components in the browser

Hi,

Is there a way to reorder components in the browser?

I don't mean the history, just simply the top to bottom order of components in the browser, for an arrangement that would be logical to the current design and easy to follow visually.

I'd like to be able to drag them up or down to their "proper" place in the browser, if possible.

Thanks.

Create a new thread, post your design (the model in .f3d format, not a screenshot), then we can analyze the problem.

This problem need to be fixed ASAP, The browser tree needs ALTERNATE VIEWS, history only sucks!

we need..

1) HISTORICAL ORDER (which is the view we have now)

2) HIERARCHICAL ORDER - Shows components in a "branched tree" based on JOINTS.

3) CUSTOM ORDER - any order we like ( and also have more than one user custom order)

With the ability to add FOLDERS ( not components) to group components.

Autodesk can do this as the BROWSER TREE is just a DATA VIEW, you can code it to be anything. it does not have to be in historical order only. We have the Timeline to view data in historical order, ( which i hardly use any way)

Yes please give us reordering and folders in the timeline!!!!

Why wasn't this a basic feature in the first place? For me, with bigger projects, it feels like i work 50% on the model and search 50% (to hide/unhide stuff) of my time within Fusion.

I mean, the components have to be in alphabetic order, how can I sort them?

Because this makes no sense at all... @Anonymous

I'm encountering a similar (but mildly different) issue too:

  1. I created a component
  2. I did a circular pattern to create 5 more copies
  3. They were all in order (Foot:1 -> Foot:6), great!
  4. I then created a new parent component called Feet and moved Foot:1 to 6 under it => They're in the wrong order now (1, 5, 2, 3, 4, 6). I didn't move all six components in one go, so maybe they appear is whatever order I used but that seems unpractical.

BUT that showed me you can rearrange components: I moved all six back to the root component, then one by one to "Feet" in the right order

Good luck. This company @Anonymous wants you to pay $$$$ for software (in a subscription model no less) but can't even make basic UI improvements after 5 years this thread created. Honestly this is Abandonware at this point.

I have been operating with the timeline off, which means i could reorder the tree.  People keep telling me to have the design history on, but now i find, yet again another reason to leave it off.

How come its still not possible to simple reorder components for my own organization?
Do I need to never forget the order of anything or should I be ok to have components all over the place

This really needs to be implemented. We already have the Timeline at the bottom of the screen to keep track of the Parametric properties of the design. The Browser order should be independent of that entirely and allow us to better organize our finished products.

If Autodesk is worried about people understanding the concept of parametric modelling, then make history order the default, but allow people who understand that already to change the Browser to best suit their needs

1000% agree with this. Fusion is very powerful, but lacks some pretty basic usability features!! I am new to using Fusion and have never had to hit up google for so many "simple" little things only to find out you can't do them.

The initial question was answered and the OP parked the answer as the solution. It's as simple as that 😉

You should open a new thread.

I am working on an assembly with a number of sketches and custom parts. I also have a lot of standard McMaster hardware components. Early on in the design, I created a new sub-assembly component called "hardware" that I was dragging standard components into so the browser tree remained small and tidy. Sometime recently, Fusion stopped letting me drag and drop components into this sub-assembly, and now my tree is a mile long with standard parts. Has anyone else experienced this with large assemblies?

I have tried cutting and pasting into the hardware assembly, but no luck. I can copy and paste, but then I need to re-do all the joints (theres a lot of joints). I have also tried opening a different smaller part file, and checked that I still can drag and drop things into sub-assemblies. I believe my large assembly just is too much for Fusion to compute the drag and drop. Please let me know if you have experienced this and have any work arounds, thanks!

I can help you with that. Just press CTRL+B to rebuild the project. It should do the trick 🙂

If you re-order the creation of the components in the timeline history, the list of components will reflect.

I created a single stretcher component and then a shelf component that would sit on top. I then created a Move/Copy of the stretcher so it showed the shelf in between. I dragged the Move/Copy in the timeline before the extrusion of the shelf and now the stretchers are together in the Browser.
