"Update Child Components" causes child components to be deleted from design

Hi All, 

I'm having a strange issue where I've modified the original files for 2 child components linked to a main assembly, so the assembly prompts me to "update child components..." as usual. However, when I press to update, the 2 child components that needed updating are abruptly deleted fom the component tree, causing features in the design timeline to have "missing tool bodies". 

No errors pop up. I've also tried "Get Latest Version" on the components individually, causing that single component to be deleted. 

I appreciate any help with the issue.
