"The Selected Drawing Template Cannot Be Found" Error

I've created a handful of drawing templates and saved them in their on project, but recently some no longer work. When chosen I get a dialog box with the error "The Selected Drawing Template Cannot Be Found". Even if I use the browse option and select the template manually, the error still pops up. What's going on?

Hi,

1. are the assigned projects or designs visible in the Datapanel?
2. do you work with several teams, so that the templates are assigned to a currently not activated team?

I know I am late to the discussion but is the same issue I am having now. I just did a clean install but nothing has changed. It is very strange behavior, the first time I try to do a New Drawing from Design I get the Template cannot be found. Then I try to browse to the template location and choose the same template but I get the same error. Now if I try a third time and try selecting the template from the drop down menu, it works???

Has anybody seen this? I only have 2 teams and both are active.

Thanks all,

I to have the same problem, been happening for a week or so. Browse the folder where templates have always been and the same error comes up. I just have to keep closing Fusion down, open different drawings, or just close down for it to work again  😞

Apology for you Inconvenience,

To understand the issue, can you please provide the template files which are causing the error message?

@Anonymous

Greetings of the day...

By looking at the image that you shared, I see templates are in a separate project in the team hub.

Two things you can do to avoid error message:-

  1. Open the templates once, before using them for drawing creation.
  2. If the first option doesn't work, Copy templates from the current project to the project where you are creating the drawing.

Please let me know the results whether it works or not.

Regards

Chandrashekhar

Hi Yah,

The templates have been there since the day I started using Fusion and I've been using it for a while now and never had any issues, so the problem has happened with some change in Fusion. Also to copy a template into each folder is silly that defeats the purposes doesn't it  😁

Hi,

Have you ever thought about transferring your Personal Hub to the Team Hub.

There's only me within the business who uses Fusion so the Team part is not required

The same thing has been happening to me.  Templates I've used for ever have started being intermittent. Sometimes fusion can find them, other times it reports they are missing. restart doesn't fix the problem.   I found just now if I create a drawing on a new blank template, cancel that,  and the re-try my custom template it loaded it again as normal.  I don't know if this will work every time, but I thought I'd share if of benefit to anyone else.

Still an issue. If I open the template then closes it I can create a dwg like normal.

It's because the drawing templates, just like every other design, get archived after a certain amount of time inactive. Just open them up again and it will all start working again. Really is a stupid feature, but at least it's pretty minor.

I have had exactly the same experience. I always feel like I am headed up the hill on a roller coaster every time I fire up the drawing module. The drawing team at Fusion 360 needs to spend a bit of time on user experience to keep us all from having to declare to the drawing UI/UX, "Yes! I really want you to use my template that I always use. No, I REALLY mean it this time, No?, OK, now I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want you to use the template I always use!!!" Is anyone at home?

I just fought with this for way longer than I would care to admit. The template file was successfully started 3 times yesterday and then failed to load today. The solution was relatively simple and I do not see it in this discussion thread so here you go...

Initiate the "Create Drawing" routine. In the pop up window navigate to the drop down in the "Template" field. Select "Browse" and then navigate to the target file in your project. This propagated the target with no issues.

I was not able to capture the dropdown menu because as soon as I click to capture the screenshot it closes that menu.

I hope this helps others.

UPDATE:

It seems that this method of opening the template has now fixed the quick link as well. So that is great.
I hope it works for others as well.
