"Do not capture Design History" is grayed out

My file size is becoming too large, and I have been told that resetting the design history will clear up some file space. In order to do this, though, I need to press "Do not capture design history" which is grayed out and unable to use. I have suspicion that this is likely due to the fact that I am using linked components, but I am not entirely sure. Any workarounds to be able to actually turn off design history?

Hi @humberat,

I don't know of any workarounds other than running the command.  There are a couple of reasons the command could be disabled.  If the design is a Configuration, the command is not allowed.  If this is the cause though, hovering over the command in the menu will display a tooltip explaining why the command is disabled.   Another reason the command could be blocked is if there are Assembly Context Features in the timeline.   If that is the case, deleting the Context features will make the command available but will also remove the associativity with the referenced designs.   You should consider that before committing to the change, as it is a significant change.   The associated Assembly Context in the referenced design will show as broken after deleting the Context Feature, which can be resolved with the break link command.    This will remove any associativity between the files but will allow the "Do not capture Design History" to be run if this was the cause if it being blocked.   Copying the design first and trying the changes there would allow you to see if this enabled the command.
