Problem Installing Fusion 360 - urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED]

Hi,

I am struggling to install Fusion 360 on my PC. Below is the result from my Log File, the full Log file is attached.

<urlopen error <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: self signed certificate in certificate chain (_ssl.c:1056)>, url:https://dl.appstreaming.autodesk.com/production/67316f5e79bc48318aa5f7b6bb58243d/73e72ada57b7480280f...>

I have tried the various methods offer by the below pages, to no avail.

I have also tried searching in the forum and am unable to find the same problem. Elsewhere on the internet  I have found these posts, however I cannot deceiver them.

https://github.com/hardikvasa/google-images-download/issues/140

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27835619/urllib-and-ssl-certificate-verify-failed-error

Also, it may be worth noting that the PC is running Windows 7.

Can anybody help?

Please and Thank You

Based on the time of your post, I would suggest trying once more, as we did some early morning maintenance as part of our latest update that impacted installs and updates.

Beyond that, when it comes to Windows 7 my first question is whether all the updates are installed? Windows 7 also likes to tell you they are, but be sure to force it to check again, because this can often lead to a few more updates. Be sure to check optional ones, too.

What we usually see with a legacy OS is that they are missing updates to support the latest security standards, so hopefully it's just a matter of getting patched up.

Beyond that, a courtesy reminder that Windows 7 is now End of Life, so this problem may unfortunately get worse with time, regardless of application, as standards change.

Having the same problem on Mac running Mojave.

Looking at stackoverflow they point to Python installations having the issue so as an FYI I have Anaconda installed with Python 3.7.4.

Upgrading to Windows 10 solved the problem for myself, not quite sure how
this solution might translate to mac though.

Best of luck.

The message I am receiving:

<urlopen error <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE, VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: unable to get local issuer certificate (_ssl.c:1056)>, url:https://dl.appstreaming.autodesk.com/production/97e6dd95735340d6ad6e222a520454db/73e72ada57b7480280f...>

@kalmdown, SSL errors like this generally indicate missing security updates.

If that's not the case, the next step would be to look at how you're connecting to the internet, such as through a proxy, VPN, or overzealous firewall that might be interfering with this process.

As a side note, because this thread has been resolved, and was initially about Windows 7, in the future I recommend creating a new post so that your issue will have better visibility.

Hmmm...I don't think I can resolve this without better diagnostics.

Will create new post next time. Didn't want to create duplicates.

Hi,

I'm having the same installation problem with a number of new Mac laptops (10.14.6 MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)). I've attached the log file.

@rschildge, I generally recommend creating new threads if a significant amount of time has passed since the original post in order to get your post the best visibility.

That said:

ssl.SSLCertVerificationError: [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: self signed certificate in certificate chain (_ssl.c:1056)

You noted this is on a number of new Macbooks - is this an enterprise or education environment? This error would suggest a local network proxy configuration is interfering with certificate verification.

I have two recommendations:

  1. Since it depends on your local configuration, there is no one-size fits-all solution. I would send these logs to your IT department, possibly a copy of the installer for them to run, and explain that this app is being blocked from updating due to the school's network configuration, specifically in the context of certificate validation.
  2. IT admins have access to an installer designed for mass deployment so that each device does not need to download the same update data again and again. This is the preferred method for keeping lab environments up to date, and would bypass this issue.

That said, students and staff often run Fusion 360 on personal devices, which uses the traditional streaming updater, so it's still worth addressing issue (1), even if your IT department implements (2).

Hi Lance,

How would I direct the IT department to find this installer? Who would be the best person to contact to gain access to it?

Thanks,

You can follow this article here:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

On installing a lab version - note this will not keep Fusion up to date - which will eventually cause issues.

Hey Lance,

I'm just facing this issue at the school that I work. We have Cyberhound in place here and we've been having issues with Macs.

I have attached the print-screen + the logs.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Nathan Almeida

@Anonymous the error appears to be the same scenario - there appears to be a signing issue possibly due to configuration of a firewall, proxy, or other network/privacy service. In this case, I recommend adding the *.autodesk.com/ domain or at least dl.appstreaming.autodesk.com/  to your allow lists.

Hi Lance

I am getting SSL certificate errors when trying to install the client downloader.

Is there a certificate issue with your hosting server again as there was in 2016 and 2020?
