Preview not showing

When in my work space on the left I have the data panel. I have renders and other such things in there that have been created with Fusion 360. However often times it does not show a thumbnail of what is in the folder. Right now there are 11 items. But 7 of them are PNG files that have no thumbnail. How do I make it so I can see them. Along with this when clicking on a PNG file is there a way not to open my browser to view the images. Maybe open in my local viewing program?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! I tested this on my end and found that PNG files were sometimes not immediately previewed, but the thumbnail would come in after a short time or when the Data Panel was refreshed. Does refreshing the Data Panel bring in any of the thumbnails for you? What about shutting down and restarting Fusion 360? You can refresh the Data Panel by clicking the cycle button next to the magnifying glass icon.

I think it is possible that the uploads for the PNG thumbnails are simply lagging slightly - when were these files uploaded?

I also found that I could use the "Share Public Link" option (accessed by right-clicking the PNG file) to view the photo file in a web browser. Does this work for you? The translators used in the Data Panel can only open files supported by the Fusion 360 desktop app - they cannot open a different local application in which the PNG files can be viewed apart from the web browser.png.png

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here is an example of the problem. As you can see in the picture, some of the PNG's just arent showing up. Now if I click them they will come up in the browser. And they are files created by fusion. I have refreshed, and I have even reloaded fusion and these files still dont show. It is as if a thumbnail isnt created for them. Dont mind the black spot that I cropped out. fusionpng1.png

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response! I tested this a variety of ways (uploading directly to the Data Panel, creating the PNG with the Capture Image, uploading to the A360 web browser and viewing in Fusion) and found that the thumbnails came in reliably for me. To confirm - are you creating the PNG in Fusion with the "Capture Image" command?

Does this issue occur if you upload a new PNG file? If it seems to only occur with specific files, please share one of the photos with me so I may test on my end.

It also seems like something may be stuck in your local cache. We could try clearing your upload queue and local cache. The instructions to do both are included at this link. It is possible that clearing the upload queue will prevent the thumbnails from coming in for the problem pictures, as they could be stuck there. Perhaps clearing the upload queue (be sure to back up any designs that have not been saved or are currently saving to the cloud locally so they are not lost) will clear out whatever is blocking the thumbnails from being generated.

I also wonder if manually clearing the upload dialog might help with this behavior.

If this does not help, or if you experience this with any PNG file, does performing a clean uninstall and reinstalling Fusion help resolve this behavior?

Thank you for the reply. Sadly I dont have any images I can share as of right now. I can say that this issues as been across multi installs. Sometimes it helps if I open them in the browser then sometimes they are view able in fusion.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response! If you could share one of the PNG files with me privately, feel free to email it to paul.clauss@autodesk.com. I would be curious to see if this issue is somehow related to specific PNG files.

I also wonder if manually resetting the data panel would help resolve this issue.

If a manual data panel reset does not help, would you mind attaching your diagnostic log files to this forum thread? They may provide some details on this behavior.

Hi @Anonymous

One other thing we should check is if this behavior is specific to the Capture Image command. Do you have any missing thumbnails if you upload PNG files to the Data Panel (the "Capture Image" command also creates a local copy)? How about if you upload the PNG files through a web browser?

I had the same problem all I had to do was use the mouse wheel in the box then all the previews populated.

Hi Paul,

I'm having the same issue. Not with .PNG files, but just in general. Some files are not showing a preview and some are. I have tried all of your suggestions, but the problem remains. It doesn't prevent me from working, but it would be nice to see the thumbnails again.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

This might help the developers:

I think I have worked out when the situation happens, but not why or how to fix it. I rebuild a bunch on my models to get the thumbnails back, but fusion did an automatic update while working on them and all the previews of the models I had opened, lost their thumbnails.

I hope this helps fix this glitch. It's pretty annoying.

Same issue here as well -

Took a look at the version history and the thumbnail disappears at a certain point (see below)

Wish I knew how to refresh it or even fix it.

I'm having the same issue.  The missing icon follows to other PC's (e.g. desktop or shop laptop), and the missing icons are also missing online in the web interface.

Also, old versions show the icon, reverting to one of those versions restores icon.  Apparently something getting broken in the file.

I've had this issue for months as well. I have found that if I copy the piece missing the thumbnail it will be regenerated. If I move it, it doesn't work. If I export an archive and import, they aren't rebuilt either.

@dbolackQEERK  I have a similar case open here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/broken-browser-thumbnails/m-p/12240899#M181886

If the copy workaround works to fix the thumbnail, I would still be stuck with keeping the original.  Because the original is linked in other assemblies.  That would be an OK workaround only if the file isn't linked/used in another assembly.
