Possible? - Selecting internal, hollow volume of model and convert it to a body.

Hey everybody!

 

I'm new Fusion 360 and was wondering whether there was way of selecting the internal, hollow volume of model and converting this hollow selection to a body.

 

I would like to do Comsol Multiphysics simulations with the internal domain of my model, therefore I would be nice to just export the hollow volume as a body.

 

The hollow volume starts and ends at the inlet/outlet of those very narrow pipes which are supposed to represent tubing.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@Anonymous - this should be possible.  Boundary Fill is the tool you would use.  You'll have to make sure that any openings are closed, either with a surface or with a workplane, then select all the relevant bodies + any closing surfaces/workplanes and choose "New Body" or "New Component" as the type.

I tried to do as you say, but the function returns the same body and no internal cell...????

 

Can you do it? My file looks like this now

I had to use Combine to create a body of the interior passageways.  The Boundary Fill command just would not recognize the interior even when it was a completely bounded area.  You will find the body as Body 12 under the Top Component (3):1  Body 10 and 11 are the cross holes if you want them.  I have attached your model modified under a different name.

I think that there is a bug in Boundary Fill here.  However, the model here is in pretty bad shape.  If you try to do a Compute All on this model, you get a circular dependency:

Also, for such relatively simple geometry, there seem to be a LOT of body moves in this design:

This really should not be more than a handful of features to create this design

The geometry is not 100% identical, but it shows the concept (model attached).  With this model, I can use Boundary Fill to get the hollow body extracted:
