Pattern along path 'symmetry' bug

I can't tell if I am doing something wrong, or I am running into a legit bug in fusion 360. Looking around the forums some it appears pattern on path might just be a horribly buggy feature? FUS-20296 + FUS-35593 + FUS-33994  might be related?  Found:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-support/another-pattern-on-path-bug-and-feature-request/m-...

Details: I am trying to pattern an object (bug exhibits for both component and body) along a path. When I check the 'Symmetric' box the newly added objects in the preview render do not honor the spacing 'distance' entry. The newly added objects seem to reduce distance by some arbitrary amount in one direction.  Additionally, when I do hit "OK" on the dialog, I get a wildly different output than was visible in the preview rendering. If I then go back in to edit the pattern feature, the preview rendering _looks_ like before, but hitting "OK" show the same failure.

To reproduce this (and challenge someone to get it to work) I made a demo file and took some screenshots which I have attached here. The idea here is to make a pattern of red 'teeth' that perfectly match the row of green teeth behind them (that were made with "Circular Pattern"). Maybe there is a workaround that I can leverage to get these patterns to work? Is pattern on path really this broken or am I doing something wrong?

Hopefully this works, because I am not allowed to attach a .f3d file: http://a360.co/2iS2uQx

Thanks,

Chris Brinker

Hi @cbrinke1,

Thank you for posting! The issue with the wrong spacing distance, this should be because of the location of the start point. By default, it's set at the endpoint of a line and you can move it to the middle (the value should be 0.5) to make it symmetric. (this is related to FUS-35593)

If you move the start point to the middle of the line, the distance still looks like it does not make sense, and this is logged as FUS-27120.

As for the issue with the difference between output and the preview, I was not able to confirm. Would you be able to record a screencast of the steps to reproduce it?

I apologize for the inconvenience the issues are causing. For now, I think it would be better to use "Circular Pattern" as you did for the green bodies since the path is an arc.
