Non-stop spinning cursor

No problems with freezing, all functionality seems fine. But frequently after some op or another, the cursor never stops spinning, doesn't return to an arrow. I can still pick items, but it's annoying as all get out. Sometimes it magically goes back to normal, otherwise I need to restart F360.

@eerier_bleach0f The issues you are referring to are not the topic of this thread.

Please create a new thread and post some models and examples.

If I interpret what you wrote in another thread, often you experience long computation times/delays when working with surface-based models. That is not what we are discussing here!

While I am working on this, I have taken your model, created a post on the Fusion Slack channel (which is only open to Autodesk Employees and EEs), and tagged someone from the Sketch team.

I've experienced what you described, and while I can see why this sketch poses a challenge, it should not effectively stall Fusion. Thanks for sharing the model!

Here is the model with the much-simplified sketches.

A little tip:

When a sketch starts computing slowly, then disabling profile detection will help make it editable. Just don't forget to turn it back on when done with the edits 😉

I'm on mac, the BBOD is the mac version of the spinning wheel.

You interpreted incorrectly.

- Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2006
- Apple M1 Max rMBP A2485 // Latest MacOS // Latest Fusion
- Usually working off files uploaded to Fusion as: Step, STL, SLDPRT. If it matters ask me.

Thank you for the tip (De selecting the profile) this seems to help, however this just seems like another workaround to a problem that appeared after the June to  November 2023 updates. The software does not seem to use any more processor power, or the page file, nor does it use extra memory to resume calculations during the sketch operation or the spinning wheel problem. Could this be a thread waiting for an integrity check?, listening for something that was coded during development and de bugging and not removed?

I assume you wrote the above before examining the model I had attached to my post.
That model does not have any problems as it completely eliminates the bad sketching practices in your model.

I did take a look at the model, it does however seem that there is a problem when editing the model,(see attached) which is what we do on a regular basis, as clients needs "shift". The reason for our "bad" drawing practice is implemented in our office as standard drawing practice for the past 18 years. The reason for the drawing practice we use is to simplify working in various formats E.G we work on AutoCad 2024, Inventor, Revit as well as Fusion. If you have access to the software design team please mention that all evidence on the non responsiveness and spinning wheel point to a thread waiting for an integrity check or a long running uninterruptible computation. Always better to fix a problem than to have a workaround.

Yep. When you put all that geometry into one sketch, you have no other choice but to select all of it to create the flange feature in the timeline. When I edited the sketch and deleted all the unneeded sketch geometry, the Flange tool now lacks most of the previously detected sketch profiles and works with cached geometry.

This is another reason why it is not recommended practice (in any modern parametric CAD software, including Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.,  to put all that stuff into one sketch and work with modeling features instead. I should have edited the flange feature to delete the previous profile selection and re-select it.

You engaged in another bad sketching (not drawing!) practice by working with a single sketch instead of breaking it into one sketch for the flange and one or more for all the features you want to add.

My model is not a workaround; it demonstrates recommended best practices for working with parametric, history, and feature-based CAD software.

My recommendation would be to overhaul your company guidelines and bring them in line with modern tools!

I have posted the model on the Autodesk Fusion Slack channel and it's been recorded as a defect.

I do agree with Technilamp, as you need to sort out functions that you have included in a program to be used to its full capability before adding extras,.... and more problems.

I have found that the software has become more bloated and inherited more "try this and see if it works" situations than it previously had. Dropping the Windows 8- 10 support has had an negative impact on our company, as we had to mostly move to AutoCad (cheaper than upgrading 23 workstations)

Is there a solution to the spinning cursor yet? as this is getting to be a pain when you are trying to select something

Thank you John for this solution!

it was driving me nuts. Such a simple solution. 😉 I still consider this a bug, but at least I can make it go away. lol

For anybody reading this in the future, what solved it for me was clicking the Show Data Panel button. I know I'm 360 days late but hope this helps somebody.
