Nesting is now crashing/hanging/failing

So while the nesting extension was in preview it seemed to work reasonably well, now however, it is crashing out each time I try to create a nest, it hangs for significant amounts of time when I import sources, and generally just ends up being unusable overall. It also will not generate a new nest when you edit the nesting criteria, I had one nest complete after a 45 minute hang.

Seriously, what happened guys? I've tried nesting several different jobs and it's been hot garbage.

Hi @OakHillProdDev,

Thanks for posting to the Fusion 360 forums.

Would you be able to upload a sample model? f3d file or download link should work fine.

Many thanks.

F3z attached for you, though I fail to see how this will help you troubleshoot adding components from different designs to a nest or see the problems I having. This is the simplest one that is causing issue. I was aiming to have it nest the original components and then have it fill in the empty space with a bunch of little 16ga tree silhouettes, system hangs for 15-45 min when I add components from another file to the nest. When nesting was in preview it would take 1-2 min at most to pull sources/components in from other projects.

If it fails to attach you can get it here:

Extension is pretty well broken/useless to me at present and it was an awesome thing when it was working.

Hi @OakHillProdDev,

I've just downloaded and tried on my machine and everything seems to be working as expected. Adding the tree project to component sources took around a minute, and nest calculation took slightly less. My workflow was as follows;

  1. Remove all referenced components and saved file (so I was starting from fresh)
  2. Navigate to Manufacturing Workspace
  3. Open Component Sources
  4. Press the + icon
  5. Select the tree project
  6. Press OK and create nest study.

Are there any additonal steps I am missing?

Many thanks.

Nope, you're doing what I'm trying to, additionally I was trying to get a dozen of each tree on the cut list.

Still crashing/hanging when I try to make a nest.

Again, was not having this issue when things were in preview mode.

These issues are persisting despite me starting a brand new save file independent of the components I want to cut and trying to pull sources into the new file. Currently I'm waiting on it to import the trees again, 10 min and counting now.
Seriously, what changed between the preview and the full release to break things?

Recorded a screencast of it crashing out for you:

If I'm doing something wrong here, I can't fathom what it is.

Hi @OakHillProdDev, I am still not able to reproduce your issue. Please see this Screencast link (https://autode.sk/30q62j1) showing what is happening on my machine but I am able to get an end result.

It is taking longer than usual, some of that is down to the Screencasting process, but not all. I will speak to the development team to understand what could be causing this.

Many thanks.

Have you managed to get a nested result? Like I showed in the video, I am not able to reproduce your problem.

Nope, moved back on to doing the nesting by hand. I'll poke it with a sharp stick again tomorrow

@OakHillProdDev not a problem - I don't believe this is an issue with specific data, as it is working as expected on my end. Would you be able to share some info about your machine? Are you using MAC or Windows? Version of this etc. Many thanks and sorry you aren't able to use Nesting at the moment.

Cleared cache on Fusion and now it seems to be pulling sources, however now it's hanging when it's generating tool paths. Resetting package materials and re-running the nest to see if that helps.

It did, no idea what is causing the problems, but I'm calling this resolved if it doesn't blep again.
