Need help switching from education licence to personal

Hi,

The timeline is roughly:

  1. I signed up for an education license
  2. I have created in the meantime several hundred models
  3. This eventually expired and I am no longer with my university
  4. I was put onto the 30 day free tiral, which is now over
  5. I'm now in read-only mode
  6. I want to go into personal (free) license

I haven't found any way to switch. Please note that it is very important to me that I do not lose my existing models.

If I try to log into autodesk site with my old account, the email is no longer recognised. I am worried that if I create a new account my existing projects will be lost.

I created a new account to post to the forums from my work email. This isn't the actual account - can give personal details in a PM if needed.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi,

have a look at this thread # 6

Thanks for this reply. This looks like the right answer, but there's an issue that the autodesk login won't accept my sign in email any more. It completely does not recognise my account, not even offering to reset my password.

I have no access to the system for user ID identification. I've also never seen a case where an account was lost.

When was the last time you logged into the student account you are trying to access?

If using the app counts as logging in, I've been using the app constantly throughout having the educational license, up until the last few days before it expired.

As far as logging in on the autodesk site, hardly ever.

Thanks. The only explanation I've ever seen for what you describe is unfortunately, user error. When it is reported the answer is always to log in to the account using the accurate credentials. Customers figure out the email address and once they supply the correct one the account is always there.

It sounds like you are quite sure about the unrecognized email address, but that would be the point of failure in the typical case like this.

Have you tried logging in to manage.autodesk.com with your old (unrecognized) email ID?

This is very strange. I go to https://manage.autodesk.com in incognito mode (to avoid it seeing myself as this account that I created to create this forum post)

There's a two-stage login page, so it isn't possible to even try to enter the password if the email address is not recognised.

Every time I get this:

This email or username is not recognized

Just to make absolutely sure, is there any way to get the current users' email/id from the logged-in user on the instance of Fusion360 I have running on my computer? There are really only two addresses I might be using, and I've tried both, but this would at least give me total confidence that I have the correct address.

You didn't mention that you are logged into the old instance.

Thanks, I'm away from home right now but will check that soon. As far as I remember, it is in a state where it shows me as being logged in (shows my name), but also can't open most of my models (they show greyed out in the navigation) so I'm not certain.

A screen capture image showing the entire application frame you are describing would go a long way here. Thanks in advance for providing one. Let me know when you get home.

Here's the flow I'm seeing now that I am at my computer:

On starting the app, it goes into offline mode, even though I am on the internet normally:

On clicking past that dialog, I get into the main fusion ui. Note that some models on the left are grey'd out, whereas the models I've been working on recently are not

Content not refreshed in a while even though I've had the app open since this date:

On hovering over the person icon in the top-right I get my name:

jimhigson_2-1668682319856.png

but if I click on it there is no info about my autodesk account, just preferences in the menu:

jimhigson_3-1668682359230.png

In the top-left I also see my name and if I hover on it I get this:

Slightly more digging - I was able to cd into `/Users/jim/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Autodesk Fusion 360` (I'm on a mac) and run this (looking for my account):

find . | xargs grep -ai "gmail" 2> /dev/null

Here's the output (I've redacted my email address but it is the one I expected and I can DM you it on request. My email address is mentioned four times in this directory in text and binary files:

However, on entering that same email at accounts.autodesk.com I get this error:

I have used another email address recently, which I tried just in case, but I get the same result.

I've been able to make a little more progress. What I know now:

  • the email found by grepping the files is the old one, I changed the email at some point to a new address that I use now (moving to protonmail from gmail for better privacy)
  • it seems like the fusion 360 app for some reason still has the old email, and maybe it can't log in using it, which is causing it to think it should be offline? (this is specualation here)
  • there seems to be a bug in the login page on Safari that for some reason wasn't taking me past the first screen for the new email if I used autocomplete to fill in the form. One I typed it manually I was able to reset the password.

I'm going to try following the Free Licence signup procedure later today. I'm a bit short of time right now so will have to come back to this.

One question - I understand there is a limit to how many models a user can have with the free license. What will happen if I already have more than this number of models?

Many thanks for all the good help given so far - this really is a very good level of support.

1. they are currently active (editable) files.
2. you go to datapanel and change the setting of some files to READ ONLY.

I now have access to fusion360 working. This comes down to a small but significant bug in the software that I had to override:

  • If the user has changed their email, F360 can get into a confused state where the user is half logged in, but changed their email since logging in. In the case the user shows as logged in but cannot log out via the GUI. The fix in this case was to delete LoginState.xml, but it would be good if the software automatically sent the user to the auth in this case.
  • The login screen on MacOS safari seems to sometimes not work with the OS's own autofill from MacOS keychain

Many thanks for getting this fixed!
