Missing settings in extruder

Hi,

I've encountered this issue today that wasn't there last week.

My settings in "extruder" have mostly vanished. (Picture below)

Usually, I set the temperature of the extruder and others things, but this is only what is left.

I've tried closing and reopening, but it didn't change anything.

What should I do?

Best,

Hello @vinc.beaulieu

Where are you storing your print settings? On the cloud or a local folder?

Can you export your print settings and attach them to this thread. (Or send them to me via private message)

Have a nice day.

Regards

I've seen similar behavior recently.  To recover those settings, I've usually had to create a new setup.  It's happened several times to me over the past month or so.

My print settings are stored in the cloud.  I suspect this has to do with updates to features or options in Fusion 360 updates that include print settings.  Perhaps they're not updating existing print settings for compatibility and causing some conflicts, but that's just a guess.

Hello @vinc.beaulieu

Are you running Fusion 360 in another language than english?

Can you send me one of your print settings, in order to get a look inside the file?

Something you can try, and @Eric_Schubert it can be used for updating the print settings.

Try to create a folder, make a copy of one of your print settingsin the folder.

And do an edit to the print settings. For example change a variable to another value, save, then edit again, and reset the original value, and save again.

This should update the print settings. But will it solve your issue?

Regards.

First, copying/pasting doesn't even work for me in the Print Setting Library.  I have to export/import to get my settings to duplicate.

Second, re-importing settings did get the additional values to show up in my print library.  In fact, originally, all of my other print settings were missing nearly everything on the Extruder tab.  And re-importing just one print setting fixed all of them in the library.

However, it did not fix the issue with print settings in the design itself.  I even deleted the existing setup and created a new setup, selecting my re-imported settings.  This still did not get those settings to display properly in the setup's print settings.  Even creating a whole new design file did not get my print settings to show up.

TL;DR:  Still broken.

Hello @Eric_Schubert

At the start of Fusion 360 fff workspace, the print settings had some limitations.

You could only deposit using extruder 1, but you could select the extruder for the support.

This have been changed recently. If you have a printer with 2 extruders you can deposit either with extruder 1, or 2.

So these variables didn't exists in the olders print settings.

It can be the issue.

If you are using Fusion v2.0.10253, i can "convert" or "update" your print settings so you can test.

Just attach them, or send them via private message if you want.

Regards.

@serge.quiblier, I appreciate your assistance here.  I've attached a ZIP file of all of my print settings for you to review.

However, a larger issue is that every time these print settings get adjustments in Fusion 360, it seems to mess up all of my existing print settings.  I either have to export and import them again.  Or, I need to completely rebuild them from scratch.

There needs to be a way to seamlessly update existing print settings on the back end.  This seems to be an area that keeps getting neglected by the Fusion team when updates get created.  I can't imagine it's terribly difficult to create a script that maps and updates/replaces/converts all print settings as changes are made and features are added.  It's frustrating to have to rebuild my entire print settings library when these changes get made, especially when users don't get a choice on installing updates.

FYI, I tried creating an entirely new machine and created a new print setting from scratch, using the Autodesk generic PLA profile.  It's still missing those settings on the Extruder tab.

Sorry for the late reply,

Here are my print settings. I also store my print settings locally

But whatever print settings I use, either locally or on the cloud, the issue still persists.

The problem is related to the Print Settings Editor.

The only workaround that I found was to modify my local print setting file in the Print Settings Selection.

I've provided some pictures:

That's definitely not a good workaround, as you'll start losing standard print settings based on what you change from print to print. However, that's how I've been getting around this issue, as well.

Hello @vinc.beaulieu

I tried to impport, view, edit and save your print settings on my Fusion installation.

I can edit them.

Editing Print Settings.jpg

I can use them in an fff setup

Using them in a document.jpg

And i exported them, and compared the file before and after

Differences before after.jpg

Please find attached the outputted printsetting.

I don't think it will change the behaviour on your computer.

There is something else going on.

I know that currently users running a localized (i.e French, german, italian) version of Fusion are experiencing issues with the print settings.

But doesn't seem to be the problem here.

I will forward the information to the developpers.

Have a nice day.

Hello @Eric_Schubert

I tried to convert your print settings, but i haven't succeeded.

To be more accurate, there is nothing to update.

The print settings before and after are the same, at least for the first eight i tried.

You have another issue that i can't diagnose.

For editing your print setting in a Fusion document, you can use the traditionnal way.

traditionalEdit.jpg

But you can also use the alternative way.

AnotherwayEdit.jpg

In my example the session contain 2 setup, that why there is 2 print settings.

Any time you edit the print setting the system is keeping a new copy.

Have a nice day, happy week end.

Serge,

I appreciate the time taken to include steps.  However, my exact problem is that I cannot edit the print settings using the editor as you describe.  I click the Print Settings Editor icon, and I'm missing most of my extruder settings.  If I use your workaround and edit the settings within the local document by using the method Print Settings Library --> Document --> Select print settings in the document --> Click the edit icon, I still do not see these settings.

The only place I can see and edit my complete settings is via Print Settings Library --> My Print Settings --> Cloud.  (I do not have any local print settings.)

To clarify the situation, I have created a Screencast of the issue.

EDIT:  Apparently embedding Screencasts after posting is not possible, even via editing HTML...  one moment...

It keeps removing my Screencast video for some reason...  here's the direct link to the video:

@Eric_Schubert i just watched your video. Thank you for making it.
I can't replicate the issue on my end but i have a question for you.
I see that when creating an additive setup, you are choosing your printer from the "Recent" folder.

Can you create a new setup but choose a printer from a local or cloud folder instead of the recent folder and see if that works or if you still experience the same issue.

thanks

I've made setups using cloud printers, recently-used printers, printers
already in the document that have worked fine in the past. I've also made
entirely new printer machine profiles. I still have the same issue.

As of right now, my "About" window states the following build number:

2.0.10440
Active Plan: Fusion 360, Personal
Windows 10 (19042)

I have been keeping current with updates as I see notifications.
