Missing Saved States

It's 3:10 Central Time.   No automatic or manual saves made over the last 2 hours appear in my Data Panel, nor does the local Export performed during that period actually exist.   Internet connective was and is uncompromised.  2 tedious hours of work made nothing when Fusion crashed.

Several tests saves were successful.   Transient.   Capricious.   Fusion.

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for posting! I am sorry to hear about this behavior.

It looks like your crash today occurred when adding a fillet to a model - this doesn't explain why no saves were created during the two hour period. Can you confirm that you manually saved the file sometime within those two hours?

There are some limitations with auto-save that have been discussed in this thread that may have played a role here, but I'm curious about the failure of the local export as well. Would you mind attaching your diagnostic logs to this forum thread so I can have a look? It will also help to know the name of the design you were working with.

Paul,

Thanks much for your interest.   This was extra-ordinary behavior, for sure.   To be explicit, both auto and manual saves (with given state-names) as well as exports were performed; only when searching for the product were things found to be amiss- no errors were thrown in response.   The fillets were processing like molasses in Siberia- select a few edges, then do something besides Fusion for 5 minutes.

The file is "ALBULA 209 Explorer -  Total Deck Rebuild New V2 Maindeck Completed Lofts".

At the moment, the last file worked with has the dreaded grey triangle on its thumbnail in the Data Panel saying "File is not available at the moment".

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for the responses. The logs show a number of errors, so there will be a few things to check here.

First off, I see the file in the F-folder of your local cache - this is at the filepath below:

%localappdata%/Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\LH33MKUFWUCX\W.login\F

Is this where you tried uploading the file from in your last post? If not, I would find the F3D file in that directory, save a copy of it, and try uploading it to Fusion - I'm wondering if these saves somehow got stuck in the local cache.

The problems uploading, saving, and opening all point to a problem with the local cache and I'd like to try clearing it. Before you clear it, I would recommend backing up all the directories in the local cache elsewhere on the computer. These directories are listed below:

  • %localappdata%\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<ID>
  • %localappdata%\Autodesk\production\JobManager360\<ID>
  • %appdata%\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<ID>

After backing up these directories, please work through all the procedures in this article. I'd also like to take special attention to clear out the upload meter files using the procedures below:

Manually Clear Upload Meter Files:
1. Close Fusion 360
2. Browse to:

Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\production\JobManager360\<ID> (look for latest modified)
Mac OS:
~Library\Application Support\Autodesk\production\JobManager360\<ID> (look for latest modified)

3. Locate the jobs.json and the jobs.json.lck files.
4. Delete both the json and the lck file.
5 Restart Fusion 360 and review the Upload queue.
Note: The files should be recreated at runtime.

Manually Clear Browser Cache:
1. Close Fusion 360.
2. Locate and delete the below directories.

Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Autodesk fusion 360\{ID}/PLM360Cache
%LOCALAPPDATA%\temp\Autodesk\BrowserCache

Mac OS:
~Library/application support/Autodesk/Autodesk fusion 360/{ID}/PLM360Cache
Open Terminal and enter open $TMPDIR/Autodesk - locate the  BrowserCache directory

3. Open Fusion 360 and re-test.
Note: The directories and contents should be re-created at run time.

After ensuring everything is cleared out (I think something is stuck in the upload queue that is blocking other files from being saved), we could try re-importing the filelist backed up %localappdata%/Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\LH33MKUFWUCX\W.login directory back to see if it will go through.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions - I am happy to assist.

Paul,

Thanks again for your assistance.   The location specified may be where Fusion caches the file- my "exports" are the only state-saves located in a non-default location.    The previous time (2 or 3 weeks ago) the File Unavailable error was thrown, some of the method advised above where pursued unsuccessfully, with relief coming only after a clean re-install of Fusion.   I believe your instructions here expand on the previous course;   I'll implement your advice as time allows and report back.   I wonder just why this has become a perennial problem.

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for the response - yes, let me know how these suggestions go. The clean uninstall does clear the cache as effectively as possible, so it could be a related issue.

There are some other errors in the logs as well - one of these refers to an error with a t-spline body. I've seen t-spline errors prevent Fusion from opening files before - is it possible that the file was saved at some point while in the sculpt workspace before finishing the form?

The location specified in my last post is where Fusion caches the file - to confirm, you uploaded a successful export saved to a different location rather than the file from the W.login folder?

Hi @mavigogun

I just heard back from the development team on this behavior and wanted to share some information.

From the logs, it appears that autosave successfully finished on the dataset a few times, but it appears you are not seeing that. Do you see any copies of the file if you manually navigate to the recovery cache below?

C:\users\<username>\APPDATA\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<GUID>\CrashRecovery

Also, what version of the design did this issue start on? The logs show 17 versions of the being created and saved - I'm not sure if these are the saves that you are not seeing, though.

The save on V16 of the file showed a "NEUTRON_BUG_ALERT(_blobPartByPath(uniquePath) == NULL)" error, which suggests that this could have been triggered by a bad state of a t-spline body. If you can access any version of the design, please share it with me so we can have a look into this. If you can share a link, I'd be curious to see if I can download the file on my end.

The team also mentioned that all of this could be related to your D-directory. If you have not worked through the instructions in my previous post yet, I'd like to have you try deleting the D-directory from its original location, after backing it up elsewhere of course.

%localappdata\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\<GUID>\W.login\D

I hope this helps and apologize for any inconveniences this has caused.

Paul,

I appreciate the energy you've brought to the problem.   Having followed the above directions, saving and exporting-  following a few restarts -seems to be functioning properly.   Some points that might/might not speak to understanding the nature of this issue:

The self-intersecting T-Spline body has been a part of the document for an extended period- well before this most recent dysfunction.   My export destination is beyond the confines of the Fusion hierarchy, a folder created to hold all sorts of assets associated with the project.   The design features a great number of Splines used to define Patch Lofts; dissatisfied with the quality of transitions (seams and edge artifacts), existing geometry was used as basis to shape T-Splines forms- T-Splines Pulled to align with Lofted Patch Faces and Sketch Elements.   I elected to dispense with design history with the introduction of T-Splines, later re-activating captured history as work moved in another direction.

Thanks again for your efforts.

A link to the file has been PM'ed.

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for sending the file over. I had no problems with it on my end and do see the t-spline conversion errors in the New Sculpt > ReNET body - I was able to resolve these by viewing in box mode, deleting the problem faces (shown during attempted conversion), adding in new faces, and merging the appropriate edges.

To clarify - when you say you are having no issues, did the versions that went unsaved show up? Or are you now able to open and work with a past version the file in Fusion?

I've seen file problems caused by failed t-spline conversions before, but I'm not 100% that is the issue here, as I was able to open all the t-spline bodies present in the design in new files. Usually the problem form will show an error there as well.

Going back and forth between parametric and direct modeling modes could open opportunities for file corruption to occur - a lot of information is being generated and removed during the changes. While I don't have any concrete examples of this, I will be keeping an eye out and would recommend working with base features whenever possible.

It is also worth noting that, though I had no errors saving new versions of the design with the t-spline, the file did seem to save noticeably more quickly for me after I resolved the t-spline error. It also worked much more smoothly when I deleted the attached canvases - I have seen issues with particular images used for canvases causing problems as well. I haven't identified a problem canvas in your file (I just removed all of them), but I'll keep an eye out.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and I hope we can learn from this experience to improve stability and reliability in the future!

Strange- my answer to your post expressing appreciation and addressing questions is gone.   No, the unsaved documents did not re-appear.   I was able to open and save past versions after implementing the suggested purge.

Once again, the periodic failure of ability to save files has returned.   Looking for hallmark changes that might provide some clue as to why this basic function suddenly fails after weeks of function, this most recent failure was marked by stealth Fusion updates.   So, entertain that as a contributor: what could be happening with an update that breaks my ability to save files?

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you are continuing to experience problems.

I saw your previous post last week and will reach out to the forum team to see why it may have disappeared.

Did these problems occur right after or during the update to Fusion 360? The updates should not effect your data, but it seems like there could be a link for you. If you can share a fresh copy of your logs and the name of the file you were having problems with again we may be able to learn more from this.

While the updates should not cause any problems, I do recommend taking a short break and being sure to restart Fusion after the update completes.

Catching up on communication- my apologies for the delay.   To reiterate the present state of things:

It has become normalized to receive Fusion Team Messages with alerts that the server can't be reached, not limited to the recent outage.  Presently, my queue is, again, clogged- files upload on startup, then backlog thereafter, requiring multiple restarts to purge.   Occasionally, I'll reinstall or follow the proscriptions above for temporary address of the issue.

Find the diagnostic log file attached.

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you are still experiencing problems.

If you can grab screenshots of any of the error messaging you are seeing, please attach them to this thread. I'd like to get to the bottom of this for a more permanent solution.

One thing that I'd like to check is the "Optimize file transfers..." preference. We've been seeing some issues with this preference lately that seem similar to the symptoms you described and I'd like to try disabling the preference:

Please let me know if this improves the problems. I am happy to continue investigating this issue.

I had some correspondence with users for whom this worked; doing likewise in my case wasn't a remedy then, but will give it another go, as the setting reverted after the last reinstall.   Thanks again for the care and consideration given; while not personally necessary, other may benefit from the annotated screenshot (as an aside, can you point me toward a quick-and-easy tool for adding outlines or arrow to pictures?).    Thanks again.

Hi @mavigogun

Thanks for the response. Interesting about the "optimize file transfers" setting - I would be curious to see if it helps now.

I'm pretty lazy about finding good screenshot editors and usually just use MS Paint or Preview if I'm on the Mac. I know a few people who swear by Jing as well.

I discussed this with some internal resources and they believe this is related to particular data sets - nothing is shown in the upload queue and the XML file is also clean.

Could you send me a copy of the "_ALBULA  -  Surround all but the Struts" file? Was this file copied from the file we looked at earlier in this thread (ALBULA 209 Explorer)?

I'd think the recover fail was due to an active command - you can learn more about the limitations of recovery file generation at this link.

We look forward to hearing from you!
