Measure Tool gives random angle instead of distance

Often times when trying to measure the distance between two walls, It'll instead give this huge triangle with a random angle. This happens to me and coworkers all the time but this time I can't find a work around to find the dimensions. Does anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it?

It is not a random angle, the faces you are measuring are at an angle to each other so you get an angle measure. It is such a small angle, the dimension moves far from the measured faces. You can use another method to measure as shown in the video.
