If you make each component in an assembly as a separate component in the data space, this increases the number of editable files allowed. If you make all the components in the same assembly file, this would only be counted as one file. Is this correct?

Your wording is a little misleading but Yes, you are correct.  If you create, and save 10 components to the cloud and keep all marked as Editable, you have zero editable files.  On the other hand if you create 10 components or more, in the same assembly file, and save it to the cloud you will have 9 remaining editable files.
