Material Image doesn't show in Online Viewer

Hi Y'all

I've made a model with a fabric texture from my PC. I wanted to share it with the link but I noticed that the material doesn't show up/comes out weird.
I've tried removing the bump but nothing helps, the original materials do come out good.
I believe this is a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

Kind regards,

It looks like the texture is being scaled. Which points at the translation required to display on the web. It's probably converting mm to cm, which would increase the texture 10x.

Can you try comparing the texture you created with existing fabric textures to see if there is a setting or size difference in the advanced appearance dialog?

I've tried playing around with the scale settings and changing MM to CM but no luck with any solution.
I've added a bump and reflecting map to see if there are any changes, and it looks like the image doesn't transfer.
Furthermore, the texture mapping seems to be wrong in the viewer too as in Fusion it's set to the Box project.

@Phil.E

I've done some more research on the problem and the texture is ok as demonstrated here.

Yet on the imported scan the problem remains, I've remeshed and all the other options to see if it makes a difference but no.
What I did found was that the UV mapping is not correct in the viewer. In fusion I use the BOX mapping and the viewer uses the automatic mapping! So this must be some bug with the UV data upload.

I think the issue is with the texture.

  • The file itself is 342 MB. That is a huge file for a mesh body and a brep body.
  • Almost all of this file size is the custom material(s).
  • If you open appearances, delete all unused materials, and export again, the file is 166 MB.

Which means the texture you're using is somehow extremely heavy. What is the file size for the PNG that makes the texture?

The PNG files are 60mb + 80mb (normals).

I've tested out the wood imported texture like the legs and it has the same problem. So the UV mapping translation is corrupted when it's sent to the onlineviewer. But this only happens with this specific imported mesh. I'll let you know if other imported meshes behave the same.

Please do share imported meshes that show this issue.

The comment about the file size is only to let you know that the extreme size of the textures will cause more problems than if they were not so huge. I doubt you are getting much value for the cost of the file size. The design will take longer to open, to render, to share, etc.
