Mac Trackpad Panning Scale

Fusion 360 doesn't scale the Panning speed with the size of the sketches, components, bodies, ect. Every time I do a design for something long or tall, to Pan around the work it takes a very very long time and a lot of swipes on the trackpad to get anywhere. I have used the 'Look-At' and 'Zoom All' options for awhile and honestly, this is not a 'fix' it sometimes works and most times doesn't. Is there a way to get Fusion 30 to scale up the Pan Speed with work dimensions to correct this? I've seen this posted a few times in the past few years here in the Support Forums and there STILL doesn't seem to be a fix for it. I used Solidworks for years thru high school and college and have used Fusion 30 since it was Inventor Fusion in Beta and this was not a problem in Solidworks, its unique to Fusion 360.

Thanks for posting. One of the things that slows down pan is use of Perspective camera. Are you using perspective camera?

And while I understand you may have experience in other software, I'm not clear about how you compare the mac trackpad performance for those. Did you run them on your mac using bootcamp or something?

For now, to help your experience, have you tried the Pan command?

Thank you for the quick reply. I am running in Orthographic View. I have tried manually clicking on the Pan icon, and it works, but greatly slows down the workflow compare to two finger Pan on the trackpad which can be done much quicker while inside an operation. I have run bootcamp and VMware Fusion on the Mac in the past to run Solidworks and never experienced the slow Panning using the same gesture.

Thanks for the details. I've logged a ticket to improve pan performance on the trackpad. It might take a while to get fixed, so just setting expectations it will not be fixed in any planned update yet known.

Thank you for the help. I appreciate you submitting it to a status in the Fusion 360 development process that can make the improvement in the future, it’s very frustrating.

In 2024 the trackpad panning is still too slow.

Just ran into this for the first time on my mac. In ortho view it took ~6 swipes to move a small object from one side of the screen to the other.

You can fix this by switching to perspective and then back to ortho. Back to the normal ~2 swipes

Hi again. The newest Fusion build has improvements in trackpad panning. I'd like to hear your feedback about it.

Hey, I just ran into this again. Latest version (I think): 2606.1.36
Switching to perspective and back to orthogonal still works (thx @jacktoastyost) . But a better UX for the panning would be great.
Thanks for the attention to this 🙂

I used to have loads of these problems and then a while ago I noticed a big improvement in the panning and zoom using the trackpad.

Now, very recently,  it seems to have gone backwards and keeps either going very slow or seemingly not moving at all. Sometimes with pan, sometimes with zoom. changing from perspective to ortho or switching off then on gesture controls seems to fix it but only for a few seconds/minutes (possibly number of moves?) makes it nearly unusable.
