Mac keyboard shortcuts don't work

Mac OS has a system keyboard shortcut feature as documented here. I followed the linked instructions as written and they worked correctly for Apple's Pages app.

Having verified I understood the Apple interface, I then attempted to assign a keystroke sequence to Fusion 360 to simplify 3d printing as shown:

However, when I return to Fusion, the 3d Print menu item doesn't have the keystroke assignment:

I tried restarting F360 and that did not help.

Pages, however, does show the keystroke on the Table of Contents menu item.  I tried different keystroke combos and none worked in Fusion.

Fusion 360 also shows some peculiar behavior when I type "command-spacebar Autodesk <enter>" Instead of launching the prompted Fusion app, like any other app on the Mac, the builtin app launcher shows the following display:

A second <enter> keypress will then fire off F360.  So to launch Safari, I type <command-spacebar>S<enter> and safari fires up. To launch F360, you have to type <command-spacebar>Autodesk<down arrow><enter><enter> which is weird.

Why does F360 not follow the normal Mac app keyboard protocols? It would be nice to be able to assign custom hotkeys to the operations I frequently perform instead of relying on mousing and clicking.

While i'm not certain why Fusion does not use those shortcuts (it could be because of conflicting shortcuts etc. or standardization) you can pretty easily set it in Fusion:

Hi @ryan.bales ,

When I click the file menu in my version of f360, I see:

Since there aren't the 3 vertical dots on the right side of the menu, I can't assign a hotkey to the menu item. I followed the instructions at https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/quick-tip-custom-keyboard-shortcuts/ but nothing happened when I hovered on the 3d Print command other than show the popup in the screen capture. Tried hovering on the right and on the left but never got the three dots.

Perhaps hotkeys are a windows-only feature?

thanks,

Michael

The gif i uploaded should show both that I am on a Mac and I am and that i used the toolbar shortcut, not the file>menu drop down to edit the shortcut. See here:

The link you supplied also shows clicking down through the command via the toolbar to assign a hotkey.

"

  1. Find a command in your toolbar. Even look for commands in other workspaces."

To put it mildly, the UI  f360 has for hotkeys could use some work.  Not only does the current implementation require the user to know there's a difference between the context in which a menu appears, it requires the user to search the entire menu space to find a context that has a modifiable version of the menu item. It's a UI design we called "a user hostile interface" back in the early Mac software days.

On the plus side, I am happy that I now have a hotkey for something I do all the time so thank you for that.

cheers, Michael
