Linking tab very slow

Hi all,

i'm surprised this hasn't been asked/solved before (didn't see anything in search).

When editing a toolpath that has already been calculated, every tab is reasonably fast, except the linking tab. Without changing anything, just switching to this tab, by my home and work computers will slow way down, sometimes waiting ~3-5 seconds before allowing an input box to be selected, or typed into.

Clearly fusion is (re)calculating something under the hood, but why? Usually changes are only applied after we hit "ok" to accept. I don't see an preview being rendered that might take some time. Additionally, it's slow even before a change is made. What's happening? Can we avoid this lag when editing in the Linking Tab?

Thanks!

Peter

Hi @petermtaylor

Thanks for posting! We have seen some issues with the linking tab before - is this occurring in 2D and 3D Adaptive toolpaths? We had a known issue in which the tooltip GIFS were causing issues in the Linking tab. This should have been resolved, so it may be worth checking to see if you are using the most recent version of Fusion (?mark icon in upper right > About). The current version is 2.0.3803.

You could try checking for and deleting all .gif files from the folder below:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\dev\LONG_NAME\NeuCAM\UI\NeuCAMUI\Resources\Help\images

The easiest way to find this folder (assuming that is Fusion running) is:

  1. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc)
  2. Find "Autodesk Fusion 360" in the Process list
  3. Right click on it
  4. Choose "Open File Location"
  5. Navigate from here to NeuCAM\UI\NeuCAMUI\Resources\Help\images

I hope this helps! If you don't see any GIF files in the folder or if this does not help performance in the Linking tab, I'd be curious about if this behavior seems to be only occurring in a particular file or all your Fusion designs. If it is happening in a particular file, please share that design with me.

If this problem appears in all your files after removing any GIF files as described above, please record a screencast illustrating the lag you are seeing and we will continue investigating.

Just to follow up with this....

I didn't end up following any of the advice in this post....because i never saw the issue again! Perhaps something in a patch solved it. It had been a recurring but occasional issue, and I've programmed plenty of various CAM operations, both 2d and 3d since then. Perhaps there was a particular option combination selected that caused the behavior? Nothing i can track down without  repeat-ability though.

Perhaps it'll pop up again, and i'll come back and try to advice so see if i can have a before and after to confirm or deny the fix suggested.

Anyhow, i appreciate the effort, and wanted to report back.
