Inserted Canvas is no longer visible

I am very new to Fusion 360 and am having trouble with an inserted canvas.  I was able to insert and calibrate the canvas and begin sketching.  The image is a jpeg of a home floor plan. However, after saving my latest version the canvas field now shows up gray but the image is not visible.  Did I accidentally turn something off? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you,

Attach your model file and let the forum users take a look, attach the JPEG as well.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

You did not attach the image file that you created the canvas from, please do that also.

Once I had the JPEG, a simple refresh fixed the issue.  Did you do the same or attempt to?  When this happens again, be sure you Edit the Canvas and reselect the image file, most of the time it will update.  There is a possibility that you may have also move the JPEG from the original folder that you attached the canvas from.  Model is attached.

No I didn't. Not sure what you mean by refreshing the JPEG

Basically re-assigning the JPEG to the canvas which makes sure Fusion 360 is looking at the right image file in the right folder.

This same thing has just happened to me (2 May 2025).  "The image" outline is still there, calibrated, moved and aligned (appearance-wise) but the actual image is not showing.  If I refresh in the way shown in this thread (thanks for the video), the image reappears but it is not calibrated and aligned.  Now that I am done with the model, I wanted to compare one last time to the model.  This is a real drag that the image is not showing.
P.S.  This has nothing to do with the "timeline" of the canvas since it was added well before any of the modeling occurred and has not been moved in the timeline.  Any thoughts?

@jechristJE5J2

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file that exhibits this behavior to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

I have two canvases in this .f3d file that are both from .jpg files (all
files are included in this email). They have both "disappeared". The
image/canvas I care most about is the one labeled Spirit100_canopySide.jpg.
It is the one in the XY plane or showing in the "Front" view. Any
suggestions are appreciated. As a side, I also can't seem to get the two
"bubble" half to "combined". One is a mirror of the other. I'm not super
concerned about that other than slightly interested in why they won't
combined. I can't say I am a Fusion 360 expert... 😉
Thanks for help in advance,
Jeff Christensen

I'll try one more time.

You cannot attach files by email reply.

You must use the web-based forum.

Here is an abridged version of the email I sent with the files attached to the "web forum" reply.

So I provided all of the files you requested via this forum and I am still waiting for a response.

This just happened to me as well. In my case, I accidentally moved the image file, which made it disappear, but it wouldn't reappear after returning the image back to the original directory. As others already said, re-loading the same image loses the calibration, so that solution won't work at the moment.

Is there a good way to resolve this issue?

Also, why isn't the image data being saved into the project file to prevent this kind of silly problems?
